Hey guys i recently put some cobra slip ons on my 06 1300. I know i don’t necessarily need to rejet after slip ons but i want more power all around. I have a factory pro stage 1 jet kit mains: 210, 215, 220, 225, pilot: 58. I was wondering what the best basic setup to start with would be for all around more power? And which needle position should i start with clip wise? Also, is it worth it to do the decap mod on the airbox and run a hi flow filter? I ride in mostly 60-80 degree weather at around 1000ft above sea level. TIA

Absolutely decap and run a K&N hi flow washable filter. I do not recall a good starting setup but going with 210, 58, 4th clip, and 2 turns out on A/F sounds like a reasonable starting point. Others should be along to give you better advice on where to start. You will need to follow the rejet/tuning instructions in the thread titled something like, "Carb, what affects what". Also, buy and install the dimpled block off plates as part of the pair mod and buy and install Glen's permanent A/F screw. The air filter, Glen's A/F, and the dimpled block off plates will only cost you about $150 and are great additions to the FP jet kit you already have.

the 58 for the idle sounds good I think a 210 on the main is too much for just slip on mufflers . You may find the big wants to bog down under heavy throttle but is ok if you slowly roll throttle. I would not change clip height if you only have a 210 main. If you raise the clip you will run lean, drop the needle the bike runs rich. There are many great videos to help you tune the carb. Watch a couple beforte you attempt to change the settings. Best of luck....you got this!!!

So I just did the pair mod and decap as well as jetting and here are my settings
58 pilot, 215 main, needle on 3rd clip, 2 turns out from seated AF screw. I got these settings from numerous posts here and the other VTX site and the bike fired right up with zero issues to a nice idle and no choke. The info in these forums that the members share is priceless. We are working on almost 20yr old bikes (mine is a 2004) and I will always come back here to research or get help.
My bike has the Kehein cough as they call it, it’s only at very low speed and slight throttle opening. Once it’s warm it…. subsides but never totally goes away. If I’m riding spirited it goes away altogether and it’s been a night and day change between the bike. Exhaust is next at some point. The sound you get through the decapped air box reminds me of a cold air kit on a civic but it’s better than stock and it still looks stock… something I wanted as this bike was given to me by my dad before he passed.
I came for help on another issue and saw your post so thought I’d help but I feel like I should include my issue just in case the jetting is wrong. Again my bike runs fine and is slightly faster but…
my right side painted cover just above the exhaust has been over heated. It never touched the pipe but you can see where it’s melted pretty good. I can only think this is due to the jetting and may be too lean? Something to think about on your modding adventure tho I wouldn’t be scared to make changes based on my issue. I‘m sure someone will chime in and help me and keep you safe from doing the same.

Melted side covers are usually caused by an engine running too hot which, in turn, is caused by a carb running too lean. Once you got your rejet settings listed above, did you go through the steps to tune the carb described in the thread titled something like "Carb, what affects what"? These steps assure you that you are properly tuned.

I will definitely look that up. Kinda bummed this happened, rode it today to Leesburg bike fest after pulling and looking at plugs and when I got there and got back that area was not very hot. I did do some tuning with the AF screw and maybe when I was messing with it before that happened and I didn’t notice. Thanks for the help.

Where do you live that you went to the Leesburg bikefest? I spend my winters in The Villages and have been to this bike fest many times. It is usually earlier in the year but this year occurred after I had left for the summer.
