2005 VTX 1300
My bike is poping, spuddering So I figure it must be the air / fuel adjustment. I just got it back from a shop and it came back running bad so I am going to try to fix it myself. I am taking photos along the way to make sure I get everything back right. I took a couple of pics and have some questions, Maybe I can find something else wrong so I won't tear it all apart.
Gas Auto part Nut Metal Machine

What is this for, it has crap in in BUT it is sealed off on the other side ?
( I decaped my airbox years ago )
Automotive tire Motor vehicle Rim Auto part Engineering

There is a hose from the back of the carb hanging down in the pic, is that the way it's supposed to be ?
Also there is nipple (small tube) on the bottom of the carb, does anything hook to that or is that the way it's supposed to be ?

I have that U shaped tool I got from Glens for the A/F adjustment

Thanks for any help, I will have more questions along the way.

another question,
can I run my bike with the air box & 2 bottom hoses off while trying to adjust the a/f , or will it run bad without the hoses & air box connected ?
No. The tune is dependent on air flow. If you make any changes to the air flow it affects the tune.

just discovered that tube (nipple) at the very bottom of the air box is NOT capped off on the back side, just had crap in it. Cleaned it out with a
q-tip. Does anything hook to that, or is it just a drain ?

That is a drain that is outside of the filter so, it does not change airflow. But there should be a sort section of hose, with a cap on it. That is for accumulating sludge that builds up.

There is No hose or cap on that tube at the very bottom of the air box, just below where the 2 hoses connect

Just went out & checked, I did find that short L shaped hose, it fell under my bike when I pulled the air box off, no cap but I will look again in the morning. That bike shop pulled my engine cuz I had a water leak, ran fine when I took it there, now it's popping when I give it too much gas

To answer your 2nd question - Yes, the "hose from the back of the carb hanging down in the pic" is in its proper location.

To answer your 3rd question about the "nipple" on the bottom of the carb. I do not believe this is a hose nipple. Look up inside it and see if there is a screw or bolt head.

Thank you, as far as the nipple on the bottom of the carb, it is very small,
narrow, no way to get any tool in there (screwdriver
but I will try to look.
I'm just doing a little at a time, taking photos.

which direction should I turn the a/f adjustment screw ?

Search this website for a thread and a post titled something like, "carb, what effects what" for information on tuning/rejetting the carb.
