A few questions from a new rider

Hello all,

New to the forum...lots of information here!

Well, it's been about 12 years since I've ridden a motorcycle (and that was a dirtbike). Looking to get back into it and I've got my eye on an '06 VTX 1300C.

My first question is about handlebars. I don't particularly like the feel of drag bars, but I really like bars with some pullback. Can anyone suggest a good brand/model?

Next, what about forward controls? I'm 6'3 and am definitely going to want to push the pegs out a little farther. I was thinking about the Jardine forward controls. Any thoughts?

I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes on, but for now that'll do it.

Thanks,
Eric

Welcome to the cafe. I just recently purchased the Punisher bars and have not installed them yet. I took advise from many posts to the site and decided it was the bar for me, especially after the extreme seat mod set me back about 3".

Yeah. I generally like the classic look, but you hit the nail on the head about the fenders. Those are what turn me off with that look.

So what's the deal with the Jardine's using the stock brake master and others (such as Accutronix) not? Could someone enlighten me as to the differences/problems with that? Does it just limit the placement of the controls?

Forgive my ignorance here, but don't the Punisher bars have a TON of pullback (is that even the proper term?)? I know that even when I sit on the R I still feel cramped. I have long legs, so my knees ride up high. Would I really need that much pullback? Also, what is this I hear about the Badx seat mod?
Yes the punishers have 8" risers and 15" pullback. I received them today and they look great, cannot wait to install them. I know the cruiser performance also makes some other nice looking 1 1/2" bars without the smaller risers and not as much pullback.

The Bad-X seat mod is great. I had him do the extreme mod which replaced the factory foam with memory foam. It sits me back about 2" - 3" and also 2" - 3" lower. Due to this mod and my 5'10" frame it was a stretch to the factory bars. I wanted the mod because of the way the factory stone seat sat me on top the gas tank. Check out www.meancitycycles.com. Bad-X is awesome. He treats you right and gets the work done and the seat returned to you very quickly.
