So I'll be moving to Ohio the end of this month/early October. I heard a rumor that you can pretty much ride year round as long as it's not snowing. Is this true? Cuz here in Colorado, once you get through October, you're pretty much done til April or May! I realize winter gear may be needed, but do you have to bundle up with 10 layers just to ride? FYI I'll be down near Cincinnati if that makes any difference.

Unless there's ice on the ground or snow is too high, I ride.

there's a huge temperature difference between northern and southern Ohio.....I live in Northeast Ohio...we get more snow than most but I did manage to ride almost every month last year......I wear leather jacket and chaps with heated gear underneath.............especially if the temps drop below 50..........no snow...I try to ride!!!! good luck on the move!

Good question.. anyone care to share recommendations on preferred cold weather riding gear?
I ride in the winter using my Browning Hells Canyon gear its reasonably priced. It is camo but you can use it as an underliner. It is wind proof and water proof. It's not the weather here that suck's it's the other drivers, no respet for anybody even other cager's. Highways or backroads it doesn't matter they don't care who they run over. It's engrained in their DNA....Good Luck

BTW I too am a Transplant. Get ready for culture shock!

Northeast Ohio ==lots of snow...Lake Erie generated...
Northwest Ohio =less snow but cold
Central Ohio = less cold, less snow
South Ohio = Warmer still..almost no snow...
I hope you are moving to Southern Ohio...

I live in Northeast Ohio...park bike end of Nov and wake it up in March.

Thanks for the info. I will be in Southern Ohio so that should be a plus. I guess I'll just play it by ear. Hopefully I won't have to winterize the bike. And if it's too cold to ride, that means it's moddin time! And I'm not sure I'm quite ready for the culture shock. I'm originally from California and Colorado isn't much different than there. I have a feeling I'm gonna stick out like a sore thumb.

I'm about an hour southeast of Cincy near the river. Had a little snow last winter but I keep my bike road-ready-year-round. Managed to ride a pretty fair amount last winter.

For cold weather gear I'm actually known to put a helmet on when it's a might cool. Other than that, turtleneck under the leather, chaps and some good thick riding gloves.

I'm a wuss when it comes to cold so I wear a thick set of coveralls for my winter riding. I've also gone so far as to wear Underarmor (spelling??) with the coveralls when it's really cold out. So far I've only made it down to 17*F according to a bank I passed. I was living about 70 miles from work when I did that. I hope to make single digits this year if it gets cold enough but stays dry.
