I put on new forward controls today. Since I have pipes coming I decided to remove the pipes first, to make the install easier. I notice on all the pipe threads they say to replace your crush gaskets. Whats confusing me is that I can't find any crush gaskets from the old pipes. Also Autozone didn't know what size I needed for the new pipes, so if anyone has that info I would appreciate it.

You won't really see the old gaskets and they're nearly impossible to get out, but they are there. They're slightly brass colored and true to their name they are crushed in to place when the origional pipes were installed and tightened. I left the origionals in with about 5000 miles on them and all seems to be fine.

Chunter:

They're in there, trust me. The best way to get them out is to slide a small screwdriver in the edge and GENTLY tap on it with a hammer. Also, they have (sorry im blanking on the actual name of the tool) a pick thing that you can pull them out with.

The part numbers are as follows:

Napa old F12329 new F7283
Felpro 60569
Midas EN 1837 new 521817

if you go to auto zone, they should be able to find those for you. IIRC, they are the same exhaust gaskets used in a early to mid '80s honda civic 1.3 liter.

Hope that helps!

Harbor Freight Tools sells a "O-Ring/Hook Scribe Set" part #42159 for about $5 which will make it easy to get the crush gaskets out. You can also get a small flat head screwdriver, bent the head 90 degrees for a home-made tool.
