Well, I liked the way my seat mod turned out on the stock seat, so I thought I'd try something new with the extra one I bought for 20 bucks on ebay. Wanted to see if I could turn it into a solo. I cut the rider portion off behind the middle bracket bolt, it needed a little more behind it to lay on the fender so I used the wedge I cut from the seat to backfill, gluing it to the plastic pan. Reshaped alot, here's how she looks now. Waiting for ostrich leather to arrive to cover, no way the stock cover would work now. Had to cut the center portion out of bracket and realign the two seperate pieces with the mounts on bike. Bolts on nicely, can't wait to see it covered!!

Thanks GG,
I can do some creative things, but sewing, stiching is not one of them. HA HA. Its not too hard to staple the covers back on the plastic seat pan, takes a little more effort to get the shape right, hopefully it will look good when all done. Thanks again, and green flames would be cool on yours.! I still love your paint, its awesome. Have a great day.

Hey Onedoublel,

My husband cut the bracket for me with a hacksaw. We just cut off the side mounting pieces at the first bend. You will have to add a washer when you bolt them back on, otherwise it will be loose, with the extra washer there is still enough play to easily align with bracket on bike. My camera stinks at night, I'll take a pic for you tomarrow, when I get back from riding, suppose to be 80 here!!
Here she is all covered, except I decided not to use the ostrich leather (vinyl).

I'll take a better pic in the daylight, camera stinks at night or maybe its just the lighting in the shed.

How about some pics as you go along so we can have a idea of the mod. If you change the seat how do you get the covers lines to match back up?

Looks good. I have the seat uncovered, but I have not cut into it yet. Looking forward to the pictures when you get a chance.

mscales, Well on the 1st seat I left the stock look and cut out a wedge like BigX does, the original cover went back on fine except for a slight air pocket on the back of seat behind where your butt goes. But its not noticable unless your really looking for it.

The second seat was cut to a solo seat, and really reshaped, I took alot out of the sides, bottom back and width, soo the original cover would not work. I bought a new piece of vinyl and had a local upholstery man recover, because I can not sew. If you only do BigX's mod and make it a solo, you will still be able to use the stock cover but it will have to be cut down also and two seams sewn down the back side of the seat or else you will have an ugly fold. Like I said I can not sew, so I had to have the cover done for me, maybe you can and save a few $$. Best of luck. The seat is finished now but there is a pic before it was covered in this post, I'd hate to pull the glue off to show the back of seat. You'll have to glue on a wedge of foam to the back of seat to keep the width, I think you can see it in the before cover pic. I think it looks pretty good.

Very Nice Job

Well after a while of reading posts I think I have it figured out. You are very good with the workings of a custom VTX Motorcycle. Paint, Pipes, Seats, Bars, Grips, and custom fab work of exsisting or stock parts. But you Can Not Sew. Looks Like Sewing Lessons are in order. ;)

Well GG my grandmother tried to teach me a very long time ago, wish I had taken advantage of her knowledge, sadly I did not! I can hem pants and fix a hole, but as far as sewing?? I prefer to be outside doing anything. Like this morning, gonna finish coffee :coffee: and head out for the day on my X, gotta try out the new seat ya know. Have a great day, hope its warm there too.

So here's a close up of seat finished in the daylight, not too bad.

And a view from the back...

Those turnsignals and plate must go...soon!!!

Very nice. I have the "S" model and I want to lose the 2nd seat and then make the seat smaller and a little deeper. I have not had much chance to ride my new VTX but I did do 50 miles Friday and I am thinking the floorboards need to go and so does the stock seat. I am not exactly sure how much you can reshape the stock seat but I would like to remove some of the width and over hang on the side. I am not big on the saddle look.

Hi mcscales,
If your stock seat is like mine you can't take too much from the sides because of the seat pan, mine bolts to the bike just behind the deep part your talking about, if yours does not bolt there you could always trim the pan also. As long as you don't cut to much of a wedge out of the saddle part you should still be able to use you stock cover. Good luck. BTW I like my floorboards alot, but my feet are mostly on the kury pegs when riding. They are comfy. Ride Safe

Betty Boop, thanks for the pictures. I cut the seat today and got it shaped. It looks very nice on the bike. I am waiting for the leather I ordered to come in. I will try and use the old seat vinyl to make a pattern. My sister says she can sew it for me. I ordered a piece of Alligator print on Ebay. $25 for the seat and $18 for the leather, a very reasonable mod. Thanks for the help.

Plate Bracket

Hey boop, Glad you posted some whole bike pics. I think the plate bracket would be a great choice for a winter project. I also see polished fork legs, polished wheels, and maybe some chrome neck covers. I love the painted rad cover it's unique. A great idea for that custom look. Have you thought of the type of plate mount you're going with. I'm not to savy on the C model stuff yet and really don't know how it mounts.:hmm2: Maybe a GG made billet plate bracket would be in order. :D The bike really looks great. You should be really proud of your work. Now about those sewing lessons :bleh:

Good Morning GG,

I know I know sewing lessons, one day??!! :bleh: Thanks again. I definatley have a list of mods and add ons. 1. Arlen Ness air cleaner cover, its awesome and billet chrome not plastic. My leg rubs the stocker when leg up on kury highway peg, looks baddd, smudged looking. 2. Was thinking of the kury curved/lighted plate and bracket with mini silver bullet turnsignals. really wanted the integrated tail light with turn signals but all the reviews say it can not be seen well at all on the C model, because of the angle. 3.Punisher bars, hubby paid for seat to be recovered for anniversary next week. Have to wait about 3 more weeks for b-day to get bars, hum then christmas! 4. 1300 chrome radiator cover, the painted one is the result of a bad chrome paint attempt. The chrome paint worked great on metal, said it did on plastic also, guess what it DIDN'T!! So now it matches my bike. 5. The fat fork tube covers. 6. chrome neck covers 7. Working on weels my self, this stuff I bought makes them shine more every time I clean them, I also keep a coat of wax on them. Cant't tell from these pics cause there was condensation on them yesterday am when I took pics, wiped everythng else down, forgot about those. oops. Hey gotta stop with the list for now scaring myself $$$$. BTW, I would love for you to make/design me a tag mount,:D :D it has to bolt on the the bottom shock bolt, swing arm is covered by kury swing arm cover. I'd much rather spend money with someone I know than strangers!! Let me know. 8. I also want to design something for my rear fender and have a machine shop cut it out of aluminum, should not be too hard to polish up, would need to put a rubber spacer between it and fender. Oh man, gotta stop, the more I think the more I want to do!! Have a great day!!

Pattern

If you could draw me out a pattern of what you may want on the rear. I may could do it. I can't do much with curved or bowed parts. Would you be covering the plate bracket holes with this custom piece? Would it need a rubber gasket behind it cause it's laying on the painted fender? I understand the plate ok with the kury driveshaft cover, I've got a couple of these myself. I'll see what I can do. Would you want the plate to hang VR. or HZ. I also have a set of Kury LED Small Bullets That I'm not useing. But there only for the rear, There RED. These things are killer bright. Let me know what you think. Oh I forgot, Fat Fork Tubes,
Billet sized for a C model Smooth or Ball Milled Speed Lines Your Choice Polished, I'll try to get these on the GG and take a close-up.

Hey GG,
I think if I had a choice, I'd prefer the horizontal side mount that mounts on the shock bolt. Just so there's no conflict with the popo, seein how I work there and ride my bike to work sometimes. As far as the bracket for the back, I meant I wanted to design something Chrome where you would mount a solo rack to the rear fender. I don't like any of the solo racks I've seen for the c model. So I thought if I could design something and polish it up there would be some more chrome on the rear of the bike. As far as the stock license plate stuff, it will all be cut off, so no need for anything there. And I do love the mini bullets, I had them on my last bike, they are very bright, and red is good. I still have some with yellow for the front. I guess the front does not matter right now, one day if I can add the fat fork tube covers the stock ones have to come off, not sure if the kury ones will work or if I'd need different mounts for them, I'll figure that out when the time comes. Did you make the license plate bracket on the GG. I have to go back and look at your pics. Thanks again.
