I just got my 05 VTX 1300R. I have been reading posts on several boards on windshields. Could you guys give me the short list of the top few to look at? Would you recommend one that has the quick removal feature?

thanks Chuck

What's the best method to figure out what size I need?

Chuck
I think the Memphis Shade website has some information on finding the right size. Sometimes though it's just preference. Personally, I like a short windshield (enough to take the wind blast off my chest) that I can see way over. (I have the Memphis Slim 15 inch) My H prefers the Memphis Fats 21 inch.

Memphis shades. Git your measurements for your height in saddle first. We ain't all created equal. If you be in a helmet state, you might want to figure that into your calculations.I'm 5ft.11 inches but My upper body is long. Short ass Irish folks anyhow. What ever you are. Measure. I love the Memphis. I have risers so I sit back. A 17 even w/ a helmet works for me. Do your homework. The shade tinting has started to flake a little on mine, but most folks can't see it out front so wtf.Good craftsmanship. Jmo Wildman.......

I have the Memphis shades 19" clear I am 5'10 it works fine for me it also slips on and off pretty easy just loosen 4 screws. I prefer to look over mine it just works better for me I had ran an early post about this once I made the height adjustment and I have not taken it off the bike since. Todd/ '04 VTX 1300s

I've tried several shields thru out the years, and think I have found the best one now. Hondaline. No buffetting even at high speeds. I wear a half helmet on nice days, and a full face on colder weather. the prob. I've noticed with other shields, is having to purchase lowers.

The first attempt to reply apparently got lost in the ether. The windshield questions will probably keep coming up. Keep in mind that there are two hondaline windshields for the vtx1300. The more expensive one does not require a lightbar for installation. This windshield is advertised in various places on the web in the mid $500 range. The cheaper windshield referenced above requires a honda lightbar for installation. The dealer I bought my vtx from does not carry the older (cheaper) windshield any longer and I don't see it on the honda web-site. Honda apparently heard all of our griping about the cost of their windshield and responded by raising the price...

Windshield

Most windshields are what you pay for them, and come in so many different sizes, widths, shapes, colors.....and they mound onto different bikes in different places.
I personally like the Memphis Shades' "Memphis Fats" for my new VTX it works great. Luckily it is a quick-remove type and made the job of mounting a light bar much easier and quicker. I even got the lowers, but had to mount them slightly off to clear the turn signals that were relocated to the light bar.
The Memphis Shades shield I bought (with some help from the dealer) is a different height than the one I had on my Yahama, but both hit me right on the bridge of my nose. Best thing to do is get help from the dealer....if they know what they're doing. They could at least hold one up on your bike, or one like it, half-inch or so above the headlight, and let you decide for yourself. I look over mine, but can also slump just a little and see through it.
No, my handle doesn't mean I work for Memphis Shades. I don't, but they sure are nice folks.

Sorry for missing that. They didn't have 2 choices back in January '03. It was the Honda shield and Lightbar. It was your choice how to install. You could leave the lightbar off, but you needed some of the brackets that came with the lightbar to install the windshield. I was going to get the lightbar anyway, so it didn't matter. Everyone sees me coming. When riding behind BlkXride, he makes me turn off the spotlights. But, he hasn't seen how much I have raised the headlight yet. I'll have to start taking the lead. LOL

Hey Chuck. What was the total cost of the shield plus the lowers?
I just received the Nat. Cycle switchblade system (mount and 19" shield) and total was $201 at my front door.

Putting on tonight, will update with how they work and pics.

FYI,
