Back on track because I like Darwin..

Ever notice how women seem to have better posture on bikes than most men? I mean..seriously..they sit up straighter and seem to have the controls where they are supposed to be.

I see atleast a quarter of the riders here in Florida being female. I passed a group yesterday and there was no 2 ups but every other bike was a female. I went on a small ride last weekend and 2 females and 7 males. Epi your right, females are in the classes and buying but not to many are riding daily! My class I was the only one, but my instructor was a female, you do see more of them on the weekends.
Could be cuz usually the gals are the ones who carry the carseats or stop at the grocery store:D though not always. I love riding but cant be a daily rider unless I pull a trailer. Have to carry too much stuff with me. I do home health and my pts would love it but no way. The females I know who ride are basically the same.....carrying stuff such as carseats or older kids to school. I rode 2up behind hubby last weekend for a change and I much prefer my own. He rides his to work and back each day.

I agree there are more and more women riders, but, also, doubt that they make up 25% of all motorcyclists. There is a pretty active group of female riders in the Triangle area (North Carolina). Personally, I ride quite frequently. In the 3.5 years I have had my X, I've ridden over 49,000 smile-filled miles!! If I go on a road trip, it's on the bike or I don't go (typically)...hate road trips in a cager. Luckily I don't have to bother with no car seats, but I often throw a bag on the back when I head to the grocery store!!

As I read through this entire thread, I keep coming back to the thought I had when I first read the title and 1st post...What difference does it make??....I mean really, who cares what the percentage really is??...Don't get me wrong, I'm all for gals riding their own bikes, hell I'm in the process of restoring my old CB350 so my wife can learn to ride...But do I give a crap about what the "percentage of female riders" is????...Nope, it's just not very important....

70+.... hmmm, lets see that log book son! :D

want to bet on that? i too drive for a living, the ones i most see driving like braindead monkeys are women. just my unscientific view

According to TrafficSTATS, a risk analysis study by Carnegie Mellon for AAA, men have a 77% higher risk of dying in an accident compared to women. The study, using information from both the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and the National Household Travel Survey estimated fatalities per 100 million trips to be 14.61 for men and 6.53 for women. The total number of fatalities between 1999 and 2011 were 175,094 for men and 82,371 women.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 14,512 male drivers died in 2007 compared to 5,865 female drivers, and even though there tend to be more male drivers on the road than females, the numbers strongly support the TrafficSTATS report.

And yes I am a female driver AND rider! When we take the car I drive!

Yes Bill..we care...and I'll tell you why..
It's called "social interaction"...it's a polite conversation between like-minded people that may result in an interesting end. It's part, regardless of what a very few here might think, of what makes the Cafe a great place. We can get together and have a conversation about several topics, agree or not, and we know a little more about each other as a result.
It's akin to new folks coming here and asking questions we've all seen 100 times. If we don't respond the forum is closed and of no benefit to anyone any longer. Ray could just put up a notice to "research a thread" and all this happiness would be done.
So we respond, answer the question AGAIN...you post a few pictures of your buttocks or you playing the bass..and we have an entertaining place to hang around.
Beats working...

I too no longer have to deal with carseats and children, yes I ride daily to work my work stuff fits into my saddle bags and I have a breifcase that slides over my back rest. Do I enjoy just riding? Every chance I get! Do I enjoy riding to work? I do it because I sold a cage to get 2 wheels! Not a choice. We are a 2 bike 1 car family, and I can do some shopping with the bike.

I acted like I cared about that car you bought the other day....Bill....

Sooo....I'm supposed to "pretend" to give a crap about something I really don't??...Yeah, we both know that ain't gonna happen...You know, when I posted that comment, I tried to word it politely, as to not offend anyone, but still get my viewpoint across...Of all people to get their panties in a wad, you weren't even on the list Frank...

BTW..If the percentage was 75%, it still wouldn't matter...We're all still gonna go to sleep and do whatever we all do tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that, etc...

I've already discussed this more than I wanted to...I'm out...

Very impressive mileage on the motorcycle. I live close to the Triangle so it appears that my anecdotal evidence is skewed.

Do women generally prefer riding cruisers?

From my limited observations, yes, I feel women in my area ride cruisers the most. However, I know women who ride maxi-scooters, sport bikes, can-am spyders and that cruiser/sport bike combo-Honda DN-01!!
