I have been trying to do research online but most of the info pertains to cars which in that case all cars seem to come with a wire harness so its a simple match up colors process. On a bike you dont have such luck.

Anyone in the Augusta area have a batwing fairing with a stereo. Think Im gonna need help hooking all this up. I have a stereo, 4 speakers, and an amp that I need to wire up. The stereo and amp came with a harness but I dont even know if I am supposed to run the stereo into the amp and then out to the speakers or what....

Thanks and I will continue to research.

Ok just talked to a friend....Looks like I need to find a wiring harness that runs from the battery up into the fairing...anyone know how I could get a hold of something like this...Thanks.

Yes, you'd go with the stereo to the amp then from the amp to the speakers.

Most of us just make our own power supply from the battery to the fairing, you could use a fuse block and run the + & - from there, or just run a set of 10g wire for a pos & neg with an inline fuse on the pos up to the fairing. Just be sure you put in a relay with a trigger wire to power it all on & off with the key. (trigger wire can be found in either the headlight, or you can use the tail light wire if you put in a fuse block by the battery)

+1...There are no "ready made" wiring harnesses to run power to a fairing for a bike...I got lucky and my fairing came with one though :bleh:...Went through this same conversation with another cafe member yesterday on the phone as he was looking for what to use to hook his up...

You probably won't find any harnesses with wires long enough to reach the battery. Most of them are made for cars and they just plug into whatever is sitting right behind the radio.

Can you show pictures of the harnesses you have, showing what conductors are sticking out?

Car audio has standardized their wiring harnesses for the most part......

Red=12+ switched power
Black=ground
Yellow=12+constant
Blue=power antenna/amp turn on output

Then speakers wires have also pretty much become the same way with white, grey, green, and purple wiring...But I don't remember right now what positions for each color are without looking it up...

But with you using an amp, you'll want to use RCA outputs from the head unit to go into the amp, rather than the speaker wires from it...RCA out will give a cleaner signal than speaker line out...

Yeah its a standard wire harness. So do I just not use the wire harness that came with the stereo and use the one that came with the amp. So basically I will just have RCA cables running from the stereo to the amp. Then run the harness from the amp to the speakers.

the power from the harness is typical speaker wire. I know I will need atleast 10 guage wire for power which is thicker...how do I run that into the amp for power with there being only the wire harness there.

Also....I have the stuff I need to make a fuse block....I was planning on triggering it on a relay off the brown taillight wire. Still working on making it though.

I installed one of these a few years ago. Supplies to 6 devices, switched or constant, depending on the position that device's fuse. Cost like 80 bucks but worth it when you never have to worry about where to get power from.
