I have a 2006 VTX 1300C that I purchased in November - it came with some saddlebags with chrome stand-offs that mount to the rear fender supports. I got the parts to add a rear passenger sissy-bar backrest but it doesn't seem to be possible to reuse the saddlebag stand-offs. :banghead:

I have the deluxe backrest brackets (Honda #08F75-MEM-100) and deluxe backrest (Honda #08F75-MEM-100B) - the instructions indicate that it is possible to use this assembly with saddlebag supports but apparently not with the units on the bike (apparently installed by a previous owner).

Should I be trying to mod the saddlebag stand-offs, by grinding down the integral spacers? or should I be looking for longer mounting bolts? or am I going to have to find some original Honda bags with supports to make this work?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You should be able to use longer bolts and still mount everything. I have the Paladin Backrest Bag supports and bags all mounted on mine with Really long screws I picked up at Ace Hardward. Stay with Stainless steel so you don't have trouble with rust.

So I took the advice of Diver51 and went looking for longer bolts... I've been to Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Fastenall, PartSource, Bolts+ and Brafasco and nobody carries stainless steel metric bolts anywhere near the size/length needed to take that approach...

So I'm back to square one - any other suggestions?

Could I buy the Honda saddlebag supports and try to bolt my bags to the supports by inserting a rigid (plexi?) brace inside the bags?

search the web for metric bolts...the bolts you need should be 1.25x75

I bought my sissy bar off ebay. I had a hard time figuring it out then realized that the slot at the rear side of the sissy bar frame didnt extend far enough so i had to drill a hole to allow me to use it with the saddlebag frame. I think the bolts are, (2) 10mm 1.25 and 8mm 1.25. The problem was i wanted black allen bolts and couldnt find the 70 so i got a real long bolt that only had threads at the end and cut threads off and threaded the smooth part to make my own
