I was slowing from about 50mph to 20mph as I approached traffic .. noticed the red oil light on my dash .. released the clutch and she fired right up again ..

A few min later, I got to a red light, and she turned off, pulled in the clutch and hit the ignition and she fired right up again.

Even had the tank off this morning as I noticed a drop of gas near the petcock, just had to tighten it a 1/4 turn .. not sure how it got loose. I checked all my hoses & lines.

Any ideas?

check that the battery cable bolts are tight...use a wrench...tight...

check the connectors to the computer

check the connectors for the run/stop switch and/or run/stop switch back and forth many times...

BAD GAS??? water in gas?

if it keeps up...have the electronics check for the ignition system

well dont ride slow and quit stopping....ride it like you just stole it :)

all kidding aside, i would check the stuff stated already by ohters...you talk about a petcock loosening...i had mine come off at highway speeds....i started smelling gas, then something cold on my legs and next thing i knew i felt i wet myself :). just tighten up snuggly so that it does not work loose again.

keep us posted. maybe even add some sea foam to the tank...be very liberal with the amount you add.

I love this site! 2 guys in this thread with '05 13 Rs with petcock going loose. Guess what I just did..... Hope to not have to post about that! Just goes to show it's good to be an active member. Active in READING instead of just coming here and posting when you have a problem.

Sorry for your issue compmd, but thanks to your post I hope to not have the same problem.

Well, everybody knows that the idle gets higher when the motor gets warmer. The VTX 1300 is a cold blooded individual To solve that problem I put on a Brakeaway cruise control. That way I can keep the right idle on the motor while I get dressed with helmet and the rest of the equipment while the VTX gets warmed up, without messing with the idle knob. When I´m ready to ride, the VTX is also ready. :choppersm

Mine does this when it gets below 30 degrees F, the past 2 mornings it was acting up. I had to turn up the idle a bit to keep it from stalling. Not sure why the cold does it, maybe something about the temp and fuel/air flow. but riding above 40 degrees it's fine

Adjust your a/f. That should help alittle.

Yeah, I noticed it was only an issue last night, maybe in the 50's here and this morning.

I did notice when I got closer to home (25 minutes) and the bike was nice & warm, my idle was much faster. Makes me want to turn it down a hair, but don't want to deal with the stalling.

I have a digital tach at home. We could hook it up to set the idle.

Tuning the A/F will help the idle @ cold start-up, turning up the idle itself will help, until the bike is at operating temp, which could be 10-15miles depending on the outside temp, you might have a little bit of hesitation off idle. These are cold-natured beasts. When it's up to operating temps, the idle will sound a little high, but that's normal, ref Gonzo's video.

Thanks for that, see that sounds high for me .. I would be tempted to turn it down a bit...

I'll tweak it with the tach w/ Alex .. for now if it's idling a bit high, it's ok

When's the last time you pulled the plugs?

Plugs getting a little gunked up might be your root cause.

Thanx for the vid gonz, not having a gauge i was wondering where it should be set by ear.
You can absolutely get it close enough listening to the vid and getting a good idea of the Cadence (or Rhythm). Especially if you have a laptop and a set of ear plugs :)

But, listening to it, then listening to your bike is close enough. Ive set many idle's with my bike running and their bike running, and matching that way.
