Well, I got myself a project bike today. I suspect it'll be a slow process over the next year or so, but I've still got Big Blue (VTX 1300S) to carry me and the Missus around town. I have no intention of getting rid of her (Big Blue). My Tsukayu bags just came in. My Blue Lady has hips now!

I found the project bike on Craigslist with a good motor and drive train, which shows no sign of having been dropped. I got it for a good enough price. The previous owner had pretty much removed everything he felt was unnecessary (rear brake, second front rotor, turn signals, passenger seat, front fender, mufflers (shortened tail pipes are still there), and he put very tall apes in place of the standard handlebars. I think the bike is now referred to as a Bobber.

It would probably be pretty expensive to make the bike back into the cruiser it started out as, but my intent is to customize it along the lines of Stump's bike at the top of this page--similar, but with my own flair (if I can remember what I did with all my old flair...). This means that the stuff the previous owner did to the front and rear don't matter. I would have had to replace most all that stuff anyway. Same for the pipes and the apes.

I'm going to be looking to Stump for guidance and I'll be cruising these forum threads for ideas as well. I've got an account on the chopper forum, but haven't found that forum very useful so far. Nothing quite compares with the Cafe.

So, have I bought a Bobber? Let me know. I've gotta learn the lingo.

Also, what do we call the style of Stump's or DumbComputers' bikes? They're not choppers are they? They're stretched, lowered, fat in the back, and thin in the front, sometimes with elaborate paint jobs. There must be some cool name for that cool style.

If I did it right, there should be a couple of pictures of the project bike sitting in my garage dripping with joy (and rain) for having a new home.
