Just added my first accessory to the bike.

I gotta say this thing is cool. Push a button to set it and push a button to release or just tap the brake.

And it looks good too.

:mosh: Love mine also. Had it for about 3 years.

I have been debating this or getting the Kury cruise assist
I know the Breakaways are expensive, and I thought the same thing so I bought a cruise assist also. Seriously though, I wished I'd have saved that money for the shipping for the Breakaway. There is nothing like pressing that button and letting go of that throttle for however long you want or need to. :mosh: I frequently hang my arm down and fiddle with the fringes on my Mustang seat just to exercise my fingers and hand. Hand cramps and numbness are a thing of the past.

So you are saying the Kury cruise assist isn't worth the cost?

Congrats...I'm still waiting to see if Glen will start making these as well. :patriot:
That will be a pretty intricate undertaking, trying to recreate it without infringing on design patents, I would imagine.

If anyone can Glen would be the guy from everything else he has done.

The BrakeAway is a very well made and functional piece of equipment. Have it on 3 bikes. Wouldn't be without them.

The safety factor cannot be overstated ....

Not trying to start any arguements with any one but the statement that it's "way safer than throttle locks" I dont get. I have a $35 el cheapo throttle lock on mine and after 26,000+ miles the last 2 seasons have never had a safety issue of any kind while using it. It takes the same amount of pressure to disengage it as it does to turn on or turn off the turn signals.
If it's an an emergency braking situation your talking about, the LAST thing i'm doing is grabbing a whole lot of front brake. But thats another advantage of riding the Darkside. I have a lot more rear braking traction than a MC tire.
Like I said, NOT trying to start anything with anyone, just curious as to why some have said it's safer.
To the OP,congrats on your first mod and welcome to the Addiction.

Maybe I brake all wrong but I use the front brake on nearly all braking. Not a grab or tremendous amount but I do engage it somewhat just in case. The slightest pressure on the front brake releases the BrakeAway.

I also like the placement and the size of the BrakeAway release button.

I want my brake release to be a no brainer. With the BrakeAway it is. The last thing I need are RPM's to interfere with my getting stopped because I forgot to or I didn't find the release button or paddle on my throttle lock.

I guess in my case it is a "Throttle Lock for Dummies" approach. I know it makes me feel much more secure with a BrakeAway on the wife's bike than a regular throttle lock.

Might ride 50,000 miles with a regular throttle lock with no problem or issues but in my thought it only takes once and that is the once I don't want...

It was $189.00 x 3 that I did not and do not regret shelling out...

OK I have to change out tires,(have an '04 but only 4302 miles on it) but I have read that you should change out tires after 7 years, Vote one for the dark side, more traction on stopping. The throttle lock (?) what kind of money are talking about?:hmm2:

That's cool, I was just curious as to the basis of the statemets. To each their own. My apologies to the OP if I took the thread off course. Throttle locks run about 30-35 bucks at just about any cycle shop.

I guess I stated in my opinion without any background either. In my 20s I rode a bike for 3 years with only a front brake. Young dumb and broke. Nowadays my initial response is to grab the front immediately.Old habits die hard. With the brakeaway all it takes is the slightest touch of the front brake to disengage. In a panic situation most riders wil engage both. With a throttle lock if you're not used to it you will be braking and accelerating at the same time. It all depends on what you're accustomed to. Congrats on bike of the month. That is a sweet looking ride brother!!

The Brakeaway is a hair under $200, got mine off a member here for $100 and it is far and away the best mod for the money that I have ever done
-saved my entire ride on a 14 hr day last June on the way to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Did 9 hours the next day, same result.

1/ It's very good looking, quality construction, looks like OEM stainless/chrome

2/ Works exceedingly well and will hold a set speed for miles

3/ You could ride for 50,000 miles with a cramp buster or throttle lock and not find the need to the extra split second of protection that this disengage mechanism has but on mile 50,001.....

HIGHLY recommend one http://www.brakeawayproducts.com/

I too installed a throtle lock, but I like the palm throttle lot more. I use the PT all the time and seldom the throttle lock. Wishing all well.
