Well, I "only" got 32,000 out of my GYTT, and it's time for new rubber. Bought my tire (Yoko Avid Envigor), took my bike over to my buddy's shop. Dropped the wheel and found a bad bearing. It wasn't the flange bearing, but one of the wheel bearings......

......Back up about a month. Coming into an intersection, going to make a right hand turn. Hit second coming into the turn and when I start to accelerate out of the turn, I hear a rather loud "click" when I get on it. Sounds kind of like a U-joint going bad. Got back home, put it in gear and just kind of shoved it back and forth trying to make the click happen. Nothing. It never seemed to get worse and since I knew I was about ready for a tire, I just kept an eye on it......

.......So last night we got the bike on the jack, tried to re create the click again and couldn't do it. Got the wheel off and started working the bearings making sure they are smooth, etc. On the rotor side, I tried to move the bearing, felt a rough spot trying to turn it and heard a click. Hmmm:hmm2:You can move the inner race up and down with your finger. Not much, but by wiggling your finger you can make the inner race click up and down.

Took it in to my local Honda dealer (G&C Honda in Shreveport). It'll have new bearings by Thursday or Friday. I hope it's Thursday so I can get the wheel and new tire over to R&D Cycles in Shreveport to get my CT mounted so I can ride this weekend.

I think I found my acceleration click, I'll know when I get it all put back together. A good reason to really give that wheel and bearings an once over every time you have a wheel off the bike.

So anyway, you guys that can ride this weekend, have fun. You guys in the Carolinas keep your heads down for Irene.

We're ducking. Irene's edging a bit more to the east... :icon_susp

Good luck with the new Yokohamas. I've got the Yoko Touring S...rounder edge than even the ENVIGOR and less agressive tread, so it's supposedly a tad quieter. Had her in the mountains of KY, NC and VA all week. Handled GREAT!

I was without my X for three weeks getting all new bearings, front and forks, plus Progressive springs.

Sorry about the troubles, but good on you for doing a proper check!!!:patriot:
Questions... what was the wear like on the CT? Left side more pronounced as with a typical MT?

Tire was worn down to the wear bars evenly all across the face.

G&C are good folks, I purchased a 2003 1100 Shadow Spirt from them a hundred years ago. Wishing you back in the saddle soon.

I think you'll like the Envigor. I have about 3K on mine and can't tell it from a MT.
That's what I'm hoping, Rebel. Damn GYTT has been a great handling tire at speed, but it's dead flat on the bottom and doesn't do real well going slow over rough roads. My wife and I do a lot of PGR missions in the area, and a lot of the cemeteries have dirt roads in and out. Got to keep a good grip on her (the bike, that is :D) with that Goodyear. Seemed like it got worse the more worn the tire got.

Where did you start with tire pressure?
