OK so I can already tell 99.9% of the people here are intelligent and good people, why I like this site. So question is how do you get the young A hole trying to prove a point about how fast he can go and see how close he can get to your rear tire with his crappy car off your butt? It's not so much me as my wife since the only way to spend quality time with me since I work so much, is to go for a ride and I have her life in my hands. I have pulled over several times after slowing way down and the car pulls over with me until I dismount and take my helmet off. I really hate feeling this way back in the home land and it is always some punk kid with his friends, plus don't want my wife to be exposed to this while trying to enjoy a nice country ride. Is there a better technique? I could draw my CC and one head two chest, but then I would not have the same life I have now. Any suggestions?
Sorry it would take a lot to fire back just PO, really not cool on curvy country roads which is where I live and like to ride.

Avoid any confrontation if at all possible, it's just not worth throwing your life away, or taking the risk of getting run over or shot yourself. Best of luck man!! If the little bastard also pulls over to "discuss" the situation, be very careful they are not packing heat as well. Crap like that usually doesn't turn out well for either party.

Early in the riding season I was out with the wife and a pickup driver tried the tailgate through the corners thing coming very close to us. After a few miles of this I pulled over and he went flying past just missing us. I grabbed my cell phone and dialed 911 and reported his tag number as a suspect drunk driver. Police found the pickup truck in the next town parked halfway up on the side walk in front of the Liqour store and the owner barely able to stand inside trying to purchase more boose.

My lesson learned, don't mess around with punks or drunks, report their a$$.

You guys probably know the area, Oregonia Ohio home of the Hill Climb in October. Well after a cruse down Corwin Rd. we were descending ST. 350 just past Fort Ancient and it is so sharp its almost a stop and this POS car was on my butt so bad my wife was able to push off his bumper in a down hill hair pin turn. But I have had three other young kids lately ride my butt so bad I had to pull over and wave them on. They usually peel out and what ever as they go by. I never did that as a kid I did not ride a bike until I was in the service but always kept a greater distance from the bikes just natural. Maybe lack of a parent I don't know, just don't like getting in this situation. I guess I ride slow in the curves...

Have your wife call the law while riding slowly and let them know where you are headed and have them waiting to witness the tailgating. If that don't work then a spark plug to the windshield may be appropriate. "TIRES KICK UP THE STRANGEST THINGS"

Good point dot I never considered they could be intoxicated.

I've of the strong mindset confrontation generally in that situation is not a good thing. I've had them screech to halts behind me at lights, tailgated a few times... sometimes when I have traffic in front of me with little room to go anywhere if it gets worse. It's very uncomfortable, and as you mentioned, especially with your wife riding with you.

Generally I try to find somewhere to pull off, let them pass and get back on the road... then again, I'm normally moving pretty quick if there isn't a ton of traffic (which is normal when we ride together on the weekends) so if someone 'is' tailgating me, they're movin pretty quick too... I suspect drunks often, kids less often, but they 'try' to impress in the curves or on starts... I suppose it depends on the area too... I'm more often confronted with adults (using the term based on 'age' alone) not paying attention rather than kids flying around... but that could be more of my area.

Mort

One last tidbit, the steel only is removed in a true emergency... if you have the time to pull over and the fool has passed you, there's no reason for even a thought in that direction. Only time I would is if I pulled over and he passed, perhaps turned around and was preparing to ram me, which is pretty damn intentional on their part.

I hear you about the steel Mort, I forgot to mention this guy I swear who's bumper was hitting my license plate on a straight road (which I cannot prove) was revving his engine the whole time. Then while descending the hair pin turn my wive was so scared she literally was putting her hand against the cars bumper. If ever out hear I would be glad to show you the spot... Never a thought any other time but this was contact six... After I pulled over and he passed I revved my engine and started to chase him, my wife grabbed me and I realized why I was out there in the first place. I have been in war, shot foreigners, so I don't come off the handle too quick any more. But dam this guy made my blood boil...

Looks like you and I ride the same roads, those areas you mentioned are some of J and my's favorite areas to ride. Bummer you are having a problem like that. If your wife is riding on the back, I suggest having her call 911 during the incident.

Like the others I don't suggest confronting them, since you never know what they are on or have. Don't let your anger (which I FULLY UNDERSTAND) get the better of you and good judgment. I applaud your CCW, but you had the same requirements I had in getting an Ohio CCW, you know when it is legit to draw and god forbid if you ever have to draw, be ready to pull the trigger and the consequences that go with it (not just legal, but moral and conscience)

I do recommend pulling over, but not dismounting and confronting, just write down their plates and get out the cell phone and let the LEO's handle it.

Duck Down

It's a darn shame that most idiots seem to be find their way behind one of us! I also will pull over and wait, never had anyone pull in behind me, that brings stupid to a new leval. My wife loves to ride with me, but that kind of idiot driving is making her nervous as well as me. Stay aware of the fools that find us, but do not react to stupid with stupid. We are a far better human being, than they will ever be! Stay safe!

Will,

If you have a plate number, and report a reckless and likely drunk driver, they will investigate it. They've knocked on my neighbor's door more than once after he was already home with the car in the garage.
