I'm doing a ride with a couple buddies (one from Red Deer, AB and the other from Estevan, SK) and travelling from Calgary, AB to Ottawa, ON leaving next Friday. Plan is to get to Winnipeg, MB by Saturday night as we have some family that we will stay with. After that our route is up in the air as to whether to go south through the states or stay north in Canada. We want to be in Ottawa by around Sept 1st/2nd and we hope to hit Niagara Falls and Canada's Wonderland.

Any recommendations on routes to take or roads to avoid? Also any attractions worth seeing either just north or just south of the great lakes?

Heard going over Manitoulin Island on Lake Huron is nice.

And if you are wondering about the timing to get back don't worry, we are putting bikes in storage in Ottawa and flying back home. Will pick up next spring and continue out East through Maritimes and end on The Rock (Newfoundland).

I just got back from a Lake Superior Circle Tour and I thought the beauty of the surrounding land and the road quality of Rt. 17 through Canada on the north side of the lake was much better than on the south side through the upper Penninsula of Michigan. There was some construction on Rt 17 (I think it was between Thunder Bay and Marathon where they had one lane of the 2 land road closed so traffic had to alternate. This occurred maybe 4 times and each time added a 1-3 minutes of waiting. Oh, and it appears to be at least an Ontario provincial law that all lakes must have at least one beautiful island in them. Not sure if this applies to all of Canada.
