I installed a spike intake filter on my 2004 vtx 1300c and it cuts out bad. I have a 195 jet installed what to do:banghead:

If you have a stock needle you will need to add some shin washers #4 is the size and you can get at an Ace Hardware.

Or if you want even better just order a Factory Pro stage 3 jet kit

The 195 is the stock main. It's not big enough to handle all that air your letting into the carb. I put a spike in take on mine and I had to put a Factory Pro stage 3 kit in. I am using the 210 main, with the #58 pilot and I have the "E" clip on the 4th notch with another half shim under that. I used a #4 washer measuring 0.020" thick. Factory Pro is the only kit that works on these bikes.

Been about two years since I installed spike type breathers for anyone but shimming always worked. That was with the 195 stockers. The ones with the 185s I just replaced the main with a FP jet.

Always did the trick either way.

Look up the SCAR Mod and add 2 shims. Then take the A/F Screw out a little under 2 1/2 turns out from lightly seated.

+1 But don't cut the throttle spring shorter as described in the scar mod, that's been known to cause similar issues and could have you chasing your tail trying to figure it out.
