Please provide opinion/advice. VTX 1300R. I installed Cobra slip on mufflers Deluxe Slash Cut) this past weekend.(605 miles on bike) I have the 1st service scheduled for end of the week. I have a K&N filter to install and a Dyno-Jet kit here as well. The dealer says the new jets will increase performance slightly but more importantly, will allow the engine to run smoother overall. So far with the new mufflers I have no issues. I will put the K&N on tonight and try it out. I have so far, no backfires. So, what are your thoughts ? Should I re-jet or just cruise for a while before going that route ? I have no immediate plans for engine mods.

Why??

Why spend the money on a jet kit, sounds like all
you will need to do is the Scar mod to the carb, and adjust the a/f screw to about 2.5 turns out.
I did this on both my 1300Cs, and they run like
"Bats out of Hell". The mod is so easy.

You got it, Ram. Send the dyno jet kit back and do the sar method for the carb tuning.

On a related note: if you put the K&N on, don't run it for long, you'll be VERY lean, and running too lean for too long can do Very Bad Things (tm) to a motor.

With only the Clayton Mod and K&N you may be fine as-is. If it is running good, I would leave it alone and keep an eye on your plugs. With the K&N and Clayton, you have more air coming into the bike which can lean out the carb. Running too lean can cause engine problems or damage.

The K&N filter will lean the bike out? I guess I never heard that before, been running mine for a few weeks now. What is the fix for that? K&N and Clayton mod is all I have done.
Until recently, I had the K&N filter in a stock airbox and the Clayton mod, and did not need to re-jet, got 50 mpg highway, 45 mpg city. If you add new pipes, now it's time to re-jet or do the Scar mod like I will do in a few weeks.

K&N in the stock box will lean it out; I'd recc. shimming the stock needle with 1-2 shims ("Scar" method) for that set-up. You're pulling more air than the stock filter (the "cold blooded" symptoms you're noting are signs of leaning it out"), so you need more fuel added into "the mix" with the additional air.
