Hi,

I have a 2005 VTX 1300.

The other day I replaced the battery, rode and returned. Parked up. Yesterday I noticed that the cover for the battery housing right hand side under seat was missing.

I did not remove it and I do not think anyone would have stolen it. I did feel something come off the bike while I was riding but I thought it might have been something left on the saddle bags.

I have circled the area in the attached photo. can someone please tell me the name/designation of the part for ordering. Better, if someone knows where I can get the part, new or used that would be better. I am in Kissimmee, FL.

Thanks for your time.

As the bushings that hold the cover in place age (or fall off) those covers are likely to come off. I replaced all those bushings and RTV'ed the bushings in place. I also epoxied the covers to oversized fender washers bend at 90 degree angels and zip tied the washers to the frame. So if they fall off, they will hang by the zip ties.

I haven't looked in a while, but I ordered those covers using the Honda OEM part number. It is almost impossible to find the body painted version that came on the C models, but the chrome versions from the S/R/T like you have, where available (this was years ago).

You can see the epoxy job to the left corner of this picture. The point of this picture was my hidden garage door opener that I integrated into the cover. I have a chrome momentary button that is soldered into the opener's board.

A specialty place like Allied Seals and Bearings is a source, if you take one in to have them measure, match up. Good place for O rings too. Maybe try Grainger or mcMaster-Carr too. The Allied local outlet matched my LeatherLyke saddlebag grommets, which are very similar in size and shape to the side cover grommets.

Amazon has them for $39.

They appear to be available in black or chrome. The chrome ones are more popular since people like chrome but also because the right hand covers have a tendency to get melted by the exhaust and the chrome ones are a bit more immune to that than the painted ones are.

I bought a replacement grommet from Partzilla but they may have those on Amazon as well.
