Hi. I got my vtx1300c a full upgrade in performance. I installed cobra swept pipes, Barons BAK, Jet Kit (main jet replacement, from 195 to 210), K&N and made the Pair Valve Job. Sound is amazing BUT, some light dark smoke comes out of the exhaust when I crank the gas. :hmm2: Does anyone know something about this? Any recomendations??
I will apretiate your help guys.

What brand jets did you install?

Also did you replace the needle or stay with the stock one?

and any adjustment in needle height?

What did you set your pilot screw at?

Charlie will probably chime in soon and shed some light on your problem but more info would help.

In the meantime, you said you did your pair valve removal. go back over and check all vacuum hoses for leaks.

Check to make sure enrichment valve (choke) is pushed to off and air breather clean. Then, if still there, might want to lean carburetor some. Wishing you a nice day.

agree with checking the choke.......and may be too rich also......if the choke is in, look at the a/f screw

Jets and metal caps for the PAIR came with the Baron's BAK. Needle changed with the one provided on the kit. 4 notch (top to bottom and made some cut to the plastic "tit"of the cap) 2.5 turns to the mix. Also changed the pilot ket that is right behind the main jet with the one provided on the BAK jet kit.

Appretiate all the help and comments.:icon_gran

Not sure what jets (kit?) comes with a BAK.

Either way, smoke is an indication of a rich condition. Try going in (clock-wise) 1/4 turn.

I didn't use the jet kit provided with my BAK for fear of the horror stories with crappy kits, i personally went with Factory Pro...

Choke, A/F Mix, maybe try 3rd clip. could be your needle is too high and your overiding your pilot jet? I think i got that right....

and yes 2 turns out MAX with AF Screw(mines about 1 1/4-1 1/2 with BAK) if you put in the 58 pilot

You're right.. if the needle is too high it can override the pilot jet, and if the pilot jet is bigger, that is the LESS you have ti turn the A/F Screw out.

So, with a 55 pilot, you're looking at the 2 to 2 1/2 area on the A/F..

With a 58 pilot, you would be looking at the 1 to 1 1/2 area on the A/F..

But, not knowing exactly what was done.. its hard to give specific direction.

Pilot jet was smaller in size to the stock one. Barons Jet Kit seems to be a generic but they pack them under their name, so, not sure which brand they are. I will try to screw back the mix to 2 turns and to see if it works. Here is a link you can read what came with the kit and what I did since I followed the instructions exactly. http://www.jpcycles.com/instructions/new/zz40986.pdf .

I will post pics and maybe vids before the end of the day. Thanks...

The jet kit that came with the BAK was branded under the name of Barons. So I dont know which jet kit they are sending me:kidding: Also, the caps for the PAIR were under their name too.:icon_blinThe pilot jet of the BAK kit was actually smaller in size compared with the stock one. Just to remember what I did; 4 notch from top, Main jet 210, Pilot jet (smaller than the stock), Cobra swept (no baffles removed nor opened), 2.5 turns to the mix. I will start with the 1/2 turn back to the mix to see if works. You can see what I got and what I did exacly when I installed the BAK. Go to Google and write "BIG AIR KIT PILOT JET" when the results show up, in the first place there is a pdf document. Those are the instructions I was given. page is jpcycles.
I probably will post pictures and maybe vids before the end of the day.

Thanks a lot for your support. Blessings!! :patriot:

I would try 3rd clip position, 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated on AF screw.

You can always figure out if your needle is overiding your pilot circuit by screwing the AF screw all the way in at idle.... if the bike doesn't die you need to lower your needle(move the clip to the 3rd position)

Hmm.... ok, it doesnt say the jet size of the pilot, it simply calls it BP1.

However, it states to turn out the A/F 1.5 turns.. so that tells me that its going to be larger than stock..

I would do this..

Turn your A/F screw all the way in while the bike is idling. Count the turns. When you get it all the way in, see if it dies.

If it Doesn't die, then you're looknig at moving to the 3rd clip position.

If it Does die, set the A/F to 1/2 a turn LESS than you had it when you counted the turns when you were seeing if it would die. (say you were at 2.5 turns... go to 2.0 turns...)

Go from there.

I uploaded 2 pics of the before/after of my bike in my profile. Also uploaded a video on Youtube trying to film the light dark smoke that comes out the pipes after a hard crank to the gas but its hard to appretiate from the vid. Oh, dunno why but the audo went off after a big gas crank (I think was too loud for my iphone mic so it shutted off) :icon_eek:. By the way, that is my home 1rst floor and is not a closed enviroment. I would say 85% open. So its 15% garage crap sound :icon_mrha.
I have to admit that this time the smoke was not as present as yesterday. I forgot to mention that I mounted these parts on wednesday. I fired it up yesterday and the smoke was more evident than today. I think Im going to turn the mix a 1/4 and should be ok. Does it exist a break-in period for these mods????:icon_weir

Here's the link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VpUseIH0h4

Hope u like the vid. And THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!!!
Ride SAFE!!!! Blessings!!!

I posted a pair of pics in my profile. I forgot to mention, Is there a break-in period when someone made all these performance upgrades (Cobra,BAK, Jetting,PAIR,K&N) at once? I ask because I made all these upgrades last tuesday. Then after these mods I started the bike on wednesday, and that day I noticed fairly light dark smoke when I cranked the gas hard. ON thursday (yesterday) I started the bike and without alterations the smoke was not as evident as the first day after mods. Aniway, Ill go for a 1/4 back twist on my mix. I posted a link for a video I uploaded on Youtube but is pending for approval here in the forum. :icon_weir

Yea, if you haven't gotten the engine good, hot and blown the exhaust out...you will smoke. I assumed that you were smoking running the bike down the rode. I think you are OK. Any smoke ... lean just a tab. I really like the color of your ride. Wishing you well.
