So i decided to go out and buy a windshield for my bike today and put it on the bike. I bought the memphis shades alley cat. I put it on with no problems at fiirst. Then i get down the road and i park the bike and notice two small dents on my tank from the mounting hardware for the windshield, Made me very angry! But its my fault.... I fixed the hardware so its not touching but i have two dents that i need fixed. What is the best thing for me to do now???

Any advice would help alot....

Bike shops used to (25 or so years ago) blow dents out by using compressed air. I'm not sure if the technology has changed. I saw a commercial for a small dent puller using a suction cup, probrably won't work on a tank though.

I would NOT use compressed air. The tank is not a pressure vessal and if it blew you could get hurt. You may want to take it to one of those ding doctors and see what they can do.

Good luck.

I agree, compressed air is definitely not the way to go. The tank isn't designed, to my knowledge, to handle the kind of pressure required to push dents back out. My guess is that you'd blow it right out at the seams and someone would be seriously injured. I agree on trying dent-wizard or something like that, or try the suction-cup pullers. Otherwise, probably would have to have the dents poly-filled and then re-painted. If you don't have a custom paint job, may be able to get away with a good painter just spot-painting those areas and save some $$ if you have to fill the dents vs. pulling them.

Good luck and sorry to hear about the problem; hope it's the last of them.

I have a friend with a Kaw 2000 and he used compressed air to take a dent out of his tank. Now, he not only still has the dent, but there are these cute waves down both sides of the center. He bought a tank bib to cover it up and if you don't know it's there, it looks fine. Oh, he covered the originol dent (which was under the tank emblem) with a new tank emblem. Dah, should have done that in the first place. LOL

Thanks for the replys guys! I think in a few weeks i'll find a shop to take it to to try to get them out. After a few days the dents aren't so bad. Just bought some touchup paint for the small scratches.

I tried the air trick one time..The trick is getting the tank back on with the bottom blown out..I did that before my first paint job..I had tro take the tank and lay it on the shop floor on a nice clean towel and beat it with a 2x4 and a hammer..Have you tried Dent Wizard...If it not in a bad spot they may be able to make it go away
