I've been looking for a pair of flame grips for my 1300 R and I do not like the Kuryakan ones. The flames look too fake. I saw a pair of really nice flame grips at a Harley store, but I don't know what the differences are and if they will actually fit. Any advice would be appreciated. The grips are chrome and rubber if that matters. Thanks in advance.

Grips

If the grips are too big for the switch box housing they will not fit without mods. If they are too small they will wiggle all around and be loose or rattle. Baron's sales a flame grip for the VTX. But they are not for people that put alot of miles on their bikes. More Show, Than Go. Here's a Pic of mine. GG :D

First of all, the only difference is going to be in the throttle side grip. The clutch grips for all cruisers are the same size, 1". If the throttle grip is simply designed to slip over the OEM throttle sleeve you will be able to fit it on your bike without problems. The OD of the Harley sleeve is about 29.2 mm and the OD of the Honda sleeve is 28.3 mm. If you simply rap electrical tape around the OD of the Honda sleeve you can increase the size of you sleeve and make the Harley grip work. Again, this is only if the grip utilizes the OEM throttle sleeve.

You have to glue pretty much any grip you install. That being said, don't use superglue. honda has a grip glue that I'd recommend. Much easier to work with, meaning that it wont set instantly and leave your grip half off the bike. =)

The grips shown in #7 appear to have the throttle sleeve molded into the grip. This would mean that you would have to do the switch housing mod. I cannot be sure without actually having a set in front of me. Also, most Harley grips are 5" and most metric grips are 5 1/4".

Thanks for all the useful information. I just wish someone would make grips like that for the metric bikes. I'll keep searching. I've only had my bike for about a month now and I really don't want to start grinding on it just yet. :)
