Hey guys, I have an ‘06 Miata MX-5 that my mother gave my daughter. My daughter needs a car she can use to get to college while being able to carry her stuff. The Miata is in great shape, was literally driven by a little old woman for 87 if it’s 93k miles. If you’re interested or know someone who is, let me know!!

That is funny. My 17 year old son was looking at Miatas for a college car. I talked him out of one here that was used up. Instead, he bought an 86 MR2. Still not a big car, but it checked all of the boxes. 1. Pop up head lights 2. Rear wheel drive 3. Manual transmission. He is attending the University of Idaho, they actually get snow there.. I think he is in for a rude awakening this winter.

Meh...
When I went to college there (for more years than a Bachelor's degree really should take), I rarely drove anywhere, especially in the winter.
Cars at U of I are just one more thing to cost you money. If you're not spending money on a crazy expensive parking permit, you're paying through the nose for parking tickets. Once you're on campus, you're not able to drive anyway - it's all walkway system for pedestrians and bicycles only.

Yeah, she really doesn’t need a car when she gets there, but it’s six hours away and she needs to be able to get back and forth...

Yeah, and being a frosh he has to live in the dorms. I had the trusty Valiant at his age (which was his main argument for the rear wheel drive) but I quickly found out that when it snowed I walked everywhere. Parking is a real b*tch up there. I think they sell 250% of the parking spots. So, hopefully he gets a good parking spot and then just leaves the car in it. What years were you there? I also stretched a 4 year BS into a 5 year plan... changing majors half way through added a couple semesters of catch up into my tenure there. I graduated in 1997 with a BS in Agricultural Systems Management (basically Ag Business/Ag Engineering Technician combined - but with less engineering math).

to say the least, driving across the Poluse Plateau in a snow storm with winds i not much fun

Agreed, on the driving across the Palouse in the winter. I did it as my commute for 11 years working in Moscow and living in Lewiston. Front wheel drive cars were the best. He will learn that eventually... the Stratus that we let him use wasn't cool enough, so it will be my daily for the winter.

Not to continually Hijack your thread, but we had to make the trip up and haul the MR2 home this past weekend. Luckily it is only 40 miles from home. It looks like the clutch master/slave cylinders (one or the other) crapped out. We bled almost a pint of fluid through the system and it would not make enough pressure to fully disengage the clutch. So, after an hour of rolling around in the gravel parking lot, we called it for the day. I borrowed a car trailer the next day and hauled it home. The new parts show up today; $51 for both parts. I figured that we may as well eliminate all variables for that price. The only hitch in this whole deal is my son saying "Don't fix it without me. I want to see how it all goes together." So, we are going to fix it this weekend.

It will be hard to not work on it when it is sitting in the driveway taunting me all week.... :hmm2:
