Installed backrest I had on order from Utopia Products. Truly is fully adjustable. Requires taking the passenger seat apart, but well worth the hour of labor involved. What a difference!! Beside's the risers, the backrest is the next best add on in my opinion and would recommend one to anybody without one.:choppersm

For sake of information, I bought my backrest from www.cruisencomfort.com. This guy makes them for the 1300 and the 1800. They are $150 and the quality is excellent. Bought mine this past Spring and I love it. Read the reviews on his website.

Thanks for the link. I think I will try that out. I am having my stock seat modified to help take the burn out anyway. Total cost is still cheaper than an after market seat. :choppersm

I'm interested also. I've owned and installed a Utopia driver's backrest on my Wing, but the install sounds very different on an X. I do know that Utopia makes a good product, based on the Wing experience. I'm having MeanCity Cycles do the "Extreme Mod" to my Retro seat, which means cutting the driver seat about 3 inches farther back and a few inches lower. I have a feeling that these after market driver's backrests will not work as designed once the seat mod has been done.

Thanks GPSVTX, I'll really like yo see what it looks like. I take it that it's a sloid piece and hold up under stress? Please post ASAP. Thanks,;) GG
Sorry for the delay. Work, rain, and oh yeah work!! I posted a few pictures on my gallery. When I get a break, I'll break the backrest down so you can see the full function. Now that there is the backrest to lean against, I find myself pushing against it and sliding forward in my seat. So now I think I'll go for the seat mod. What I like about the Utopia backrest is the adjustability. The backrest can be brought forward or set back. It can be raised or lowered. And folds down so you can throw your leg over without hitting it. Having said that, I'm completely satisfied with their product. I'm sure the seat mod will be the final adjustment needed. So after everything I'm sure I will have saved a few hundred $$, at least.:)

One other mention, I stand 5'7". Have an average reach, so I drilled a couple more hole's in one of the adjustment bars so I could lower the backrest a little more to my liking. I'll take some more detailed pictures in the next couple of days.

GPS> nice looking backrest! Only thing I dont like is the pouch on the back. Can you get it without that? I'm not saying its bad, so dont think I'm knockin' your sled, but if i were going to get one myself, Id opt to go without it, if possible.

The pouch is removable. I believe it's standard. If you look at the back of the backrest, you'll see a flap that hangs down. That lift's up and the pouch is attached with a velcro strip that run's the lenght of the pouch. There's also a cover that wraps around the bar attaching the backrest that is an option I opted for. It also attaches to itself with velcro. I"ll post some more pic's today breaking it down so you all can see exactly what you get and how it all works. :)

O.K., posted more pic's of backrest apart. Hope that helps. If you decide to go this route, make sure the staple gun you use has enough power to penetrate through the plastic underside of the seat. I couldn't find stainless staples at the time, however I was able to acquire rustproof staples. All in all, for the money, I'd say you definitely get a good bang for your buck with the Utopia backrest. You'll notice where I added three more holes in the adjustment bar. That's so I was able to drop it down a touch more to my liking. And as you can see, the pouch is removable.

BACKREST UPDATE:
After installing the Utopia backrest and a couple of rides to the Keyes, I wasn't finding the comfort or the support I initially felt when I first installed the backrest. I found myself leaning against the backrest and that pressure would push my behind more forward on the seat causing enormous discomfort. And still would suffer from severe lower back pain. I considered sending in my seat to BAD-X for modification. I choose to completely replace the entire seat with the 4-piece Lowboy with studs from Ultimate Seats. The seat arrived Friday evening and I installed it. Saturday it rained. Sunday was perfect and my girlfriend and I went riding for appx 3.5 hours without a break. Not once did I feel I needed to stretch my back or legs. Not once at a red light did I have to stand to adjust the crown jewels. The seat, I feel is offering me the lower back support I needed as well as sitting me down into the bike rather than atop as the stock seat does. I now understand what all the complaints were about. So far so good. And I really like the look it gives as well. Pulled up next to an 1800 and received a complement on my new seat. All is good. Regards everyone

they are GIVI E41 and I had to adapt a National cycle hard bag bracket and then bolt the bags on. they work really nice with the extra opening for small items or open clam shell for large objects

The trunk is an E450 monolock bolted directly to the luggage rack

bgrd1,
I put the Phatriser II from Scootworks. I thought I would need longer cables. Their website recommends you run your stock cables behind the triple tree and you should be O.K. which I did. Everything worked out great. The throttle cable's could stand to be a bit longer. They're taught but don't pull on turns. I do plan on switching out all the cables.
