Finally dropped it and damaged it, shattered the screen abut it still works. Ordered a new one with the "protection plan" but I'm quite impressed the screen itself is working fine. Now I'm hoping I don't cut my face answering the phone.

i hear ya ray...i dropped my evo today while we were installing some 103" plasma tv's at a local casino. dropped it off a 6' ladder onto concrete and with the defender case it just bounced and kept on going like nothing happened.

Damn. My HTC Hero quit on me and the only thing I did to it was try to answer a call. Just locked up. 1 month out of warranty, and insurance doesn't cover it.
I'm pretty sure the screen went bad, waiting on parts. If this fixes it I'll be back in business for around $50.

If you have the Hero you should be able to upgrade by now...I had the Hero and man was that phone pushing it trying to run Android. Try try try and get an EVO....no way I would spend anything on upgrading/fixing a Hero...hell I would keep my cracked screen EVO before I would go back to a Hero.

Heck, get a new Hero then sell it on Ebay, I sold mine for $125 and put that toward the $250 upgrade charge for my son's phone.

I can't upgrade until Feb. And that is with a new 2 year contract. My company won't accept unlocked phones from outside sources. I actually love the Hero, and my phone company doesn't even have the Evo. My Hero is rooted, running a custom, and I never had any problems.
I'm trying to hold out and get out from under this contract so I can switch companies.

It's amazing how these phone can take a huge drop and survive while other times a short drop can destroy the phone. Glad to hear you're getting a replacement.

You should invest in an Otterbox case. Well worth the money and will be hard to damage your phone.

If about to get a new phone, hold off for the EVO 3D, be here very soon. Not terribly different but it will receive more support (software wise) over the coming next years.

The LCD screen came for my Hero today. That was it, works like a charm now. Android is the best. Even with my outdated Hero all it took was a custom ROM and I'm running 2.3.3 Gingerbread. Even though it doesn't have the fastest processor, I don't see a problem. It multi-tasks pretty good. I can run navigation and music at the same time without a hiccup.

I was on the waiting list at my store for the EVO, had it ever since. I've dropped it numerous times, It has a cpl cracks, a big scuf on one corner, the edges are chewed up, but I still treat it like a baby. It's by far the best phone I've had, EVER! (until the next big thing happens) This thing takes a beating and keeps rockin!
