Hi All i need you help.

I have an 2002 VTX 1800C and a few weeks ago it developed a problem. it cuts out for no reason while im riding it, if i pull in the clutch the engine runs again but as soon as i let the clutch go it stops.

Now if i turn the engine off at the key then turn it back on straight away and start it, the bike will work again.

this happens at any interval ie after 10 mins riding or after 3 hours riding. im pulling my hair out. ive taken it to our local honda dealer but they say unless the fault is there when i bring the bike in they cant trace it which is no good cos as soon as the bike it turned back on the fault goes away.

has anyone heard of this before

Sounds like a fault in either the cutoff switch on the clutch lever or the kickstand switch. Are you getting any FI codes flashing?

Sounds like the kickstand switch is just slightly out of adjustment. See page 19.18 in the 1800 service manual for adjustment procedure.

Hi. yer that was my thought but my local honda dealer has checked them both and said they were both fine and no FI light coming up either

Just because the stealers no service dept. says something, that don't make it so. Check it yourself!

Check your battery connections for tightness and don't forget the ground fixes. Especially on those early models.
