Hello all as you can tell I am new to the forum. (a little history) I recently became a owner of a 05 1300c It was a purchase of opportunity, I was riding a v-star. I got the vtx for under 3000 it has 17000 miles on it the guy how had it before me didn't ride it much it just sit in his front yard baking in the sun. when I looked at it I knew right away this bike probably was not taking very good care of. it was two years out of being highway legal the paint was faded on one side (not bad but it was) and the 700 dollar corbin seat was in just about ruins. he had a battery charger on it and poured some fresh gas into the tank. it started right up and i listened it sounded fine, i rode it rode fine got back to his house checked the oil it was pretty bad asked him what he did as far as maintenance he said he changed the oil right before the last time he rode the bike (two years) so I bought it. the oil was so bad I bought some cheap dino oil and a filter and changed it figured i would run that for a few weeks and do another oil change. I have been reading a lot on here about everything and the cafe members are very helpful and quick to help
with that being said my question after the first oil change I rode the bike every day (just about) there was some ticking. I read on here about the valves so after about 600 miles (that I rode) I tore into it checked valves (within spec) did not adjust, changed engine oil went with rotella t6 and Bosch filter, changed final drive oil, coolant, plugs, and ordered a air filter. put it back together. the bike shifts much better but there is still that tick after the engine gets warm but it sounds like it is coming from the lower part of the motor it is not a loud noise but it is there is that normal or ????? my fear knowing the bike was not loved like it should have been could it be a rod or crank or something that could be catastrophic.
