I'm on my second oil change with Royal Purple. 10w - 40. The motor is quieter. I should have shot some temperature readings of the cylinders before I switched and now. I've got but 5,000 +/- miles on the bike. 1300R VTX 2006.

A friend of mine put it in his CBR 1000RR. a day and a half later, his Stator failed. I don't know if it's coincidence or not, but I don't plan to take any risks.
Not sure but the stator is part of the alternator isn't it? If that is the case, then that would have nothing to do with the oil is what I thought. Not a big deal but it sounds more like a coincidence.

Well, you have your:
Amsoil bike oil
Mobile 1 racing 4t
Shell Rotella T
Castrol
Honda (cough) oil
among others, but those seem pretty popular.

Are you looking for fully synthetic, blend, or conventional oil?

pretty much full synthetic. I phone up my dealer (Genuine honda dealership) today to get est. price on their "Honda" Oil, to my surprise they only sell Castrol act-evo. Still reading up a bit on this oil

never use any synthetic oil
it will cause your wet clutch to slip, the thin synthetic oil will get past the rings and make your bike smoke, plus new oil leaks will show up and synthetic oil will cause bearing slippage.
Also check with your local Honda Dealer, using any synthetic may void your warranty.

From everything I've ever read, they say synthetic is always better. Weather it's bikes, ATV's or cars/trucks. Also, it is my understanding is that the factory Honda oil is a synthetic blend.

Per my Owners Manual, quote:

"Suggested oil*

"ProHonda GN4 or HP4 (without molybdenum additives) 4-stroke oil (USA & Canada), or Honda 4-stroke oil (Canada only), or an equivalent motorcycle oil.

*Suggested oils are equal in performance to SJ oils that are not labeled as energy conserving on the circular API service label."

Sounds to me like either dino or synthetic oils is fine, just stay away from the energy conserving additives. Honda would be hard put to deny a warranty claim from using a synthetic oil.

My $0.02.

Don't know where you heard that one from......I switched 3000+ miles ago
Now shifts without the klunk, runs cooler less engine noise.

I run Amsoil currently, like it a lot. One of the best on "bang for the buck" IMHO. Rotella-T and Mobil are very good full synthetics as well. Never had any experience with Royal Purple in bikes.

Just a little 'testimonial' on the Amsoil, I run it in my cars/truck as well...with 5K on it and sometimes a little higher on changes, it looks VERY good. Barely dirty at all. And I run my cars/truck hard.

That's why I asked the question on Amsoil. I run it in everything else and just wanted to know if anyone else did. This is my first nice bike and want to keep it that way. Thanks.

Thats funny...I have well over 50,000 miles running nothing BUT synthetic....even including (gasp) synthetic car oil. Original clutch, uses zero oil, no smoking, runs better than new.

Honda is now selling their own FULL synthetic bike oil, and nothing about not running it in the owners manual either.

I wish these old wives tales would stop being passed around.
