Hi guys

I'm only new to the forum and am currently looking for a 2004 and up 1300c. There are the sum total of two black VTXs where I am (Dublin, Ireland).

1. A 2004 1300c (right model) with a pretty bad dent in the gas tank. This would need to be replaced, or

2. A 2005 1300s which looks in good condition but the S model would be my second choice.

My question is this: drum roll - I prefer the looks of the C model but I imagine the tank is an expensive replacement. Would it be cheaper to swap out the fenders and handlebars on the S model?

The price of both is about the same €6,000 though the guy with the C model said he would knock a bit off for the repairs needed to the tank.

Any help is much appreciated!

The tank will run you about $950USD plus shipping and fees to replace with a new painted tank.
How much is he willing to come down on the price?
Both bikes would be in the range of $4500-5500USD here in the states.
I guess they would be somewhat higher over there on the island.

man seem to be gettin this question alot lately lol

there are pretty big differences between the C and R/S/T and i dont know the price of a gas tank off hand but im pretty sure its cheaper than an entire conversion

the differences between them are: front and rear fender, front and rear wheel, pegs/floorboards and forward controls, fender support rails, rear wiring harness, rear brake light, license plate mount, risers, handlebars, seats

i will say though that if you are planning or like the idea of adding hard saddle bags, fairing, tour pack/trunk there are alot more options for the R/S/T than there are the C model

Thanks for the steer on price. He would probably come down in the region of $700. Unfortunately the VTXs over here are a rare breed hence the slightly higher price! Damn pretty much everything over here is more expensive! LOL

Thanks for the reply which is helpful. I wanted to avoid another comparo thread between the various model designations as I know that has been raised loads of times. I hear what you say about the various swaps outs in order to make the S become a C, but really I would "only" be changing out the fenders and handlebars. I imagine those items alone plus shipping, fitting and painting would come up higher than the swap out of the fuel tank.

I've stuck up a pic of the dented tank. I am also assuming that this kind of damage cannot be repaired but would have to be replaced. I'd be happy for many advice on this.
All the best,

Al

I expect a good body shop could fix that and repaint the tank for $300-400 USD. I had my tank repainted last year because I put a horrendous scratch in it. They had to do the entire tank because of slightly different color match. Cost me $275. Check with some of your local shops. I expect Dublin has 2-3 shops that specialize in bikes.

good luck with it, a dented tank isnt too bad if thats the kind of bike you want and theyre rare over there. the dent didnt look TOO bad, it shouldnt be that bad to get it fixed, if hes willing to drop the price a couple hundred bucks to make up for the dent then id say go for it. i love my 1300c ive been riding since i was 8 years old and ive never felt a bike that can put out this much torque and power while being this fast!
