Has anyone ever heard a set of these in person? I can't hardly find anything on the internet with them. They're all on VTX 1300's which isn't going to sound anything close to the 1800. I'm debating on either the Cobra Slashdown pipes, or the Freedom Combat pipes. I can't make a decision based on lack of evidence for the Combat pipes, though. If anyone has heard them, how loud is the 2 into 1 actually? From the whole TWO videos I've seen on the internet, they don't seem all that loud. I like how deep sounding they are, but I'm unsure as to how loud they are.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I recently put on a set of the Freedom Performance Combat 2-1 and found the sound pretty awesome but a touch too loud for me under a hard pull. I wanted them a little quieter for BRP riding so I sent for their quiet baffle. What a rodeo that turned in to. After all was said and done, Freedom had changed the design of the quiet baffle and it did not fit my pipes. Went thru 3 weeks of BS to find this out. The quiet baffle did "calm" the noise down, but still a little loud under a heavy pull. I did notice a slight change in performance with these pipes: with the normal "straight thru" baffle, a very noticeable increase in torque (but not what they advertise); with the quiet baffle, back to what I had before putting them on (which wasn't bad at all). I did a plug check with each baffle and the plugs stayed the same - a somewhat dark brown but not black. My X is highly modified in intake and jetting.
Several of my friends said they would leave the pipes like they came and not use the quiet baffle. The sound is very deep, pretty cool. I did find a couple of youtube vids to watch (1300's) and they did not do these pipes justice. Sounds much sweeter in person and if you like somewhat loud pipes, you'll love these.
I was a little concerned about how low the muffler section looked. So far so good, no scraping in the twisties. I keep a close eye on this due to a rake kit/1 inch lower shocks/lower profile car tire on the rear. My previous pipes were Roadhouse 2-1. I kissed the pavement routinely with the rear of its muffler if the RH curve was hit hard enough. No so with these Freedom pipes.
Fit and finish were awesome. Since its getting harder to find a big assortment of pipes for the X's, these (to me) are stand-outs. In talking with the company several times, they have ZERO plans to stop making pipes for the VTX.
:hmm2::shrug::doh: That's all I know .... damn senior moments :tapfoot:

Check this link out and, if you are able to, take Mark's advice and listen to the videos on a good set of speakers with a bass box.(not a fishing reference) Post #8 is the first set of FP Combat 2in1's, not sure if there are more. Whatever you choose, it'll sound much 'throatier' than the stock pipes. Remember to post pics when you do swap them out!

Edit: I have the Cobra Slashdowns as well and love them. I've had plenty of compliments. I gotta say though, from what I hear from Akriders vid on my PC(with subwoofer) the FP Combats sound amazing! :47b20s0:

I forgot one important feature: the solid aluminum end cap. The regular baffle uses three bolts to secure it to the end cap. Slide baffle and end cap into the muffler housing and secure with three polished bolts. Easy peasy and does not get stuck inside the muffler making it easy to replace fiberglass packing material and/or the steel wool.
Yep, a layer of steel wool then the fiberglass - said to enhance the deeper tones. I did do some research and it seems to be a common practice. Learnin' sumtin ebery dae......

That's the real deal sound from Akriders video. The Freedom stats tell you their pipes will gain you 13hp/15tq or there abouts. I know mine certainly got a little more spunky after I opened the a/f a quarter turn, but not near those numbers. Not a blatty sound and very deep.
Thanks for this link Jon -- I'd forgot ---

I have The Freedom 2-n-1 pipes on my 1800. I don't know if they are the combat or performance ones or if those are actually the same thing. They were on the bike when I got it, so I don't have anything to compare them with. Yes a tad loud at WOT, and pretty tame if not. But I'm in the camp of "If it's too loud then you are too old". I don't know if they add any real performance, but when I nail it you better be holding on good. The 'end cap' is having some pitting issues. I'm thinking of painting it black. That will add about 58hp, because we all know that black is the fastest color...

I apologize for the lack of delay, everyone. I hope to not seem rude by not replying. I have been working quite a lot the past couple of months. After much deliberation, I finally ordered a set of the Freedom pipes, though! That link that you added wigit really helped seal the deal. There were only like two videos that I could find on YouTube, and they just weren't good enough to justify the $630 price tag. Very clear audio on that video. I greatly appreciate everyone's responses, and again I am very sorry about the lack of response on my end.

Ride safe!
