Does this indicate valves are out of spec on front jug? I've inspected the plugs again. Rear cylinder looks good to me, possibly a little on the lean side. Couldn't tell with stock pipes, but once i went w/2 into 2 pipes; easy to the see that the front is the culprit.
Any suggestions to what I need too address; greatly appreciated.
I don't have a fuel manager installed. It's an '02 c
The first 6 inches of the front pipe yellow'd from the front cylinder, probably within the first 50 miles.

What makes you think it's lean? If you put single wall pipes on, they will turn colors. Most of the Xs are lean to meet EPA reqs. If everything is in proper working order, the only other way to influence the A/F mix is to install a programmable fuel chip.

Pipes are double walled, or so advertised anyway. But they are just cheap try-me-outs to play with until fall. I had a decel pop and it was the front. Exhaust leak; just didn't do a good job getting one of the bolts very tight. Probably to eager to get moving again; but thought I had the basics covered. So I was putting too much thought into simple/stupid oversight... 1st time that's ever happened. :)

Thanks Charlie, I'll inspect that. That's in-expensive thing to replace if needed. I've seen some discussions about FP regulators & will study up on it more. I think I enjoy the tinkering as much as the riding.

We'll see how that last sentence holds up when I really screw something up. :patriot:

I think for yours it is spendy something about it being part of the fuel pump and in the tank.

I will go over to the Cali board and make sure then post the link for you.

Here is the post on it from the California board

it should be cheep as it is a individual part on the 02-03 after that it is part if the fuel pump assembly and can not be changed out by itself.

You're right. It's seperate on the 02-03. Not pricey and not real easy to access one of the bolts. Symptoms of a faulty FPR are; running rich, running poorly and fuel in the oil.

I ordered a FPR today. No fuel when I pulled the vacuum tube, nor when the FI primed when I turned the key. But the oil seems a little 'drippy' to me; for oil that been changed not to long ago. When I first got the bike, i changed the oil and remember it looking a little different then expected; especially since the previous owner said he only had 100mi on the change. I don't smell gas in it; but I'm gonna go on the premise that I've got a slow seepage of fuel into the crankcase; and probably for sometime. A $30 FPR will either confirm or eliminate it as a problem. The vacuum tube also felt a little dry to me, so I'm gonna replace it as well. I'm gonna let it rest in the garage until I get the part changed and some new oil in it. Most likely, next weekend... I'll update; thanks for the tips/thoughts/links. I have had this "somethings not quite rite" gut feeling since I got it. I got it last March w/about 13K on it, & i've put almost 2K on it since, so hopefully I haven't hurt anything.
As alway I appreciate the input.
