After a month of fighting a rattle coming from the front part of my bike, I found it by accident. You may want to add this to your list of possibles. The fork lock on my 02X has a simple housing where the locking lug just turns up into the slot with the key. The housing for the lock is only held on by one screw upwards into the body of the frame. That screw was loose and rattling like my brain usually does. A little Loctite on that screw solved the problem.

I went for a short ride a few days ago and noticed a rattling sound from the left front, I think. I just recently performed the desmog, pair valve and ground fix, so I returned home to inspect. Only thing I noticed was the lens for one of the driving lights loose. I havn't had the chance to take another ride, but I will inspect the lock screw for tightness. Thx for heads up.

Dirtdobber-I have crappy hearing, but damned good hearing aids. By the way, Red Bay, AL is where my maternal kinfolk hail from. They lived just off Little Bear Creek. My Grandfather (James Spencer) was the postmaster at Red Bayi n the early 1920's. He was married to a Stanfield and was killed in a feud between the Stanfields and some other family. Never rode up there but spent many a mile sleeping in our back car seat as a young'un. Maybe I will wrangle a ride up that way someday. From my memory, it would be terrific.

headlight housing does it, as does the rear of the front fender.
I've driven enough gravel roads with the bike and these roads up north are horrible, so I'd expect a few loose screws other than mine!

Crap, just realized this was an 1800, dunno if we get loose screws in the same place!

Front End Shimmy

I have heard that rattle too, thanks for the tip. I have another issue, I have an '03 1800R with 24K miles and it has developed a front end shimmy. The front tire has less than 4K on it and has the appropriate pressure. Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks for the tip. I have a front right rattle that's been driving me nuts! I checked tightness of all my bolts but it didn't help. I will look at all possibilities mentioned in this thread now.
I noticed you have a Barons BAK. I just installed mine and it touches the bottom of my gas tank and it vibrates like hell. Does yours touch? mine is a 2004 1800R
