All right. New member, first post. :D I found this forum by surfing, and I gotta say, this is the best I've found. Lot of info, and it's good to see people helping out. Nice. So, on to my question. I have a 06 1300R. I haven't paid much attention to my gas mileage until now ( been having too much fun riding). I saw a post where they were talking about 35 mpg. I just filled up last night, 103 miles, 3.67 gallons = 28 mpg. What gives???

Some quick details. Stock everything ( except chrome ). No windshield. 3200 miles on bike. Been riding 35 mile round trips to work, 28 highyway, 7 street. Been running around 85 to 90 ( if that is my true speed according to my speed-o )

So, any tips??:hmm2: I know a windshield would help with wind resistance and drag. I'm also trying for the next few days, keeping it around 75-80, and rolling the throttle alot easier

Sorry for the long post, just trying to give all the info you might need to help
Thanks for your time:cheers:

Right there is your answer. :nono:

If you're worried about gas, stay around 70. If you're not worried about the gas, Cruise On!

I'm pretty Throttle Happy myself...and it sucks the tank dry in a hurry. But when I slow down and control myself (steady acceleration / deceleration) I can make a tank last quite a while.

I Get 33-35 Mpg With Windshield Or Not. I Like To Go....quickly. Ive Wondered How Dudes Get 45mpg?? Scared Of The Go Knob I Think!
Get 45 pretty consistantly. Lots of WOT's and blasting out of corners. I like to have fun on my bike. My buddy gets the same (same bike, same ride)

I will get a touch less running 90 MPH on the slab. Never gotten as bad as 35 though.

You running the right octane? (87?)

I'm running 91 octane. I thought it was just my throttle-icis.

You might want to consider putting 87 octane in there; that's all these 1300 X engines need. It's a low compression engine, running premium isn't really gonna do anything for it. Most likely doesn't burn as efficiently, since it does have a higher ignition point. My $.02 is running anything higher than 87 is really a waste of $$ you could be spending on something else (like more mods! :) ). There are some people that claim they get smoother performance, better mileage off premium fuel. But, they certainly seem to be very few and far between.

I run 52 mls round trip with most on the hwy. I cruise at about 70-80 due to alot of popo here in the Va Beach area. I switch to reserve around 162-168. I get alittle throttle-happy every once in awhile. The only mod I have done is drilled out the pipes.

I get 44-47mpg consistantly. I run 93 octane (IMO just seems to run smoother). I'm a 0-60 person, so I like to take-off, but on Hwy's and interstate I only run 5-10mph over limit. I hit my reserve between 165 & 180. Just my input.

Hey everybody,
Thanks for your time and all your inputs. Looks like I just better lay off the throttle, and slap a windshield on her when I got the money.

Ride on and keep the rubber on the bottom side

WB:cheers:

I'll 2nd that.

You're much better off running 87. Higher fuel milage has been noticed by people who did.

After rejetting and adding my Veypor Tach, I used to take care of my milage numbers. After my most recent change of carb jets, and 3 burned gas tanks, my numbers are 44mpg. (43.7 to 44.3) But that was with 93oct gas. Now I am taking new numbers with 87. I live in a ver humid place with a temperature between 90F to 98F. It is not a place with a lot of highway options so most of my rides are made in short circuits like city rides. I am very happy with my numbers 'cause before my jetting, I was fouled with a 65 pilot installed with the hypercharger and maybe 3 turns AF. Now I have the most beautiful tang brown color in my sparks. I made all my cruise rides between 55 and 65 (veypor tach) wich is speed accurate... (not the stock speedo with a 10% off).
I think (personal opinion) that not every bike will make same numbers, because the sorounding factors like temp, humidity, elevation, weight, mods... but getting numbers over 38mph, you can consider that as "efficiently"

I weigh in at 260, with winsheild and use 89 octane, get 45-47 mpg tried 87 octane and still got the same mpg but I had an slight backfire every once in a while at 3-5 minutes after strart up. Normaly run on average around 60mph and that is my estamited adj. of minus 5mph. In other words I cruise, not go light speed! UH ok I do get throttle twist disease only occasionaly:D .
