I was riding home tonight, and when I went to shift into third gear it wouldn't. I stopped retried and it still would not shift. Downshifting is no problem. I then looked at it, and realized the shifter isn't coming back up, so the rest of the way home I would have to lightly push down the front of the shifter in order to shift into higher gears. Does anyone have any clue to what is happening, and how do I fix it?

Thanks!

You need to disassemble the shifter pivot and clean/ lubricate it, and possably the joints in the linkage.

Pull the left footboard, and slide the shifter off of the pivot point. Clean pivot point both inside and outside with WD40, then lube with white lithium grease. Put it back together and go ride. Some guys also clean and lube the shifter linkage ends. Personally, I don't mess with that. There are rubber boots on those points to keep them clean and keep the grease in. I grease the heel/toe pivot point every 6 months.
