Hey all,

Sorry to keep making new posts, i'm a new rider who's been riding for only a year. I want to say thank you to all who gave me their suggestions on my earlier posts. It's a huge help, and you all rock! Now i'm just curious about apes. I'd like to go to 16" apes for my 2004 1300S. All i've ever known was the stock handlebars, but i'd like to go for more of a shoulder height handlebars. What are all of your thoughts about them? Is it a hard transition or is it more comfortable? Tell me your thoughts. Here's a pic of what i've done to her so far.

I sent you a PM and I'm 6' and about 290lb and the bars are more comfortable and less numbness in my hands. Just be mindful of going too high because some states are fussy about the bars being higher than your shoulders but 16" total should be fine. Plan on brake lines and cables, if doing internal wiring you'll be adding to the wiring but if not stock wiring will make it! If you're really going to do it I can send you my phone # and be more than happy to help all I can!!

Yup, Florida does not allow anything higher than the top of the shoulders when properly seated.

Im not having any luck finding where to get 16” apes for mine. 2003 honda vtx 1300. Whenever I find some and then I check the compatibility it says it will not fit. Where did you get yours? And where can I get some and what are the brand name and all that? Thanks

It is very hard to find bars that will fit a 1300. Most aftermarket bars are designed to fit Harleys. The distance between the knurls on the HD is different than on the 1300. However, if you rough up the chrome on the bars in the area of the VTX1300 clamps and tighten them down extra good, any bars will fit on the VTX. Of course, this will leave some knurls on the bars exposed which may not look great.

You probably know this but you will also have to lengthen the wires and buy new brake line and throttle, idle, clutch cables.

I used LA Chopper bars and risers. Not knurled, but they haven't moved in 4 years.

I have seen the barons (?) adapter also. I’m looking to swap up to mini apes this winter on my 1300.... I may have to hit you up ironmike!

Wow a few years old post, but that is a striking bike! Nice contrast with that green and the white walls. I used to have white walls on mine but powder coated my rims black on the Retro. Possible again another day. But I like the black and red look.
