I took a trip recently and noticed the front end shimmy at 40-50 mph. Today I ordered some 1800C front wheel bearings to correct the problem. Do the rear bearings need replacing also? Just in case I'll replace the rear bearings when I get new Avon Venoms in the near future.

How many miles do you have Shutterbug? Your rear bearings don't necessarily need it if it's still running ok and not making any weird bearing noises (scrubbing/squealing/etc.). But, changing them out in the rear if you have the wheel off (or at least checking them while you have the rear wheel off) is not necessarily a bad idea.

Rich, I've got 6,000 miles so far, and I'm getting my bike ready for a trip to BiketoberFest in Daytona Beach in 2 weeks. I haven't heard any rubbing or unusual noises in the rear so far. As you say, at minimum I'll have the bearings checked when I install the tires.

It might not help to replace wheel bearings
most of the shimmie is due to the cheep stearing bearings in the tripple tree on the 1300.
The 1800 bearings are the way to go, I have a set and waiting for our rains to start befor I tear it down.

go to a bearing house and here are the #s
lower bearing and race 32006xj (kbc)
upper 32005xr/26 (kml)

dust seals 33-1003 and 33-1001

I don't know if you will be able to find them but worth a try,
remember that they will be for the 1800 if you order for the 1300 you will get the junk that you already have
