So you finally saw the light, LOL! Welcome from central Pa. high atop the Alleghenies. You have a garage queen with low miles and low attention having been shown her, and as such, it's not just a turnkey piece of machinery. Does the tank have any rust inside? These early VTX's have issues with the FPR or fuel pressure regulators going bad from age, not use or abuse. The little diaphragms develop cracks, allowing fuel into the crankcase. A telltale sign is smelling raw fuel on the dipstick, and poor performance, getting 20-25 mpg, surging in slow speed situations. It's a fairly easy fix, read about it. Requires 2 oil changes and 1 new filter beside the cost of a new FPR, around $40-$45. Fully charge the battery and take it to an auto parts store that will do a free 100 amp LOAD test. 1800's are highly dependent on a fully functioning battery, and a weak cell or 2 will leave you sitting. Those original tires will need changing as rubber more than 4-5 yrs. old is getting hard, losing its gripping ability, beginning dryrot. Your safety, your $$$

Talking about FPR: after 119k miles I finally became paranoid enough to proactively replace the FPR on my 2003 1800s. I got stuck last summer in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming (redundant, I know) because of a blown innertube and don't ever want to get stranded on the road again.

Henk, you should play the Lottery on a regular basis. You defy the odds, my man.
