Hi Folks

I'd post a pic of my predicament but I'm not allowed to yet because I'm a newbie.

Someone (have to assume it was deliberate) tore or broke off my licence plate assembly. Sheared right off.

Now the predicament. I looked at it, went to my local parts place and they say it's not OEM...but I can't find anything like it on line.

I looked through the Honda parts catalogue but couldn't find it there either....it seems to be part of the rear fender since I can't figure out how it bolts on or off and is indeed color keyed to the bike.

I really don't want to replace the entire fender ($$$$)

But I have to have a plate which is lit for night riding.

Right now I have it twist tied to the sissy bar.

The assembly has bullet chrome turn signals mounted on short chrome stems horizontally with a chrome oval shaped light for the plate itself.
The metal on which the plate and frame mounted have been sheared right off cleanly and it looks like took a good bit of force.

My options are to get another assembly assuming I can figure how this comes off and apart or to simply buy a generic plate frame and backer and engineer two 3 inch tabs, mount those through the same holes as the plate to the back and then drill into the "skirt" of the assembly and hang it there.....but that could look really ugly.......

Any help gratefully appreciated guys...this already screwed up my plans for the long weekend riding....love to get back on the road all legal (for night riding)

Thanks...working on it

Thanks for the responses....yeah a pic would be worth 1000 words here I have one...waiting for my fifth post.

BTW I called the dealership they couldn't find the part in their online listing (Duh!) and the way it works up here you have to be a Powersport Honda dealer so all the little bike shops have dumped out of Honda and the nearest is about a 45 minute ride away.....I will go there but work has to get in the way during the week...;-(

Stand by for pics...

Yeah, considering the cost of a rear fender (!) I'm actually working on that now...just need to source some decent "straps" to run vertically from the holes on the Licence PLate backer plate up and then some chrome acorn or airplane style torq or allen fasteners to run through...need to check the angles so it hangs plum ect....details details...

You know when I first started looking I swear I saw an assembly like this for $300 - do you think I can find it again...just for comparison????

Weird week...

Happy trails my brothers...happy trails.

Here is his Picture, had him email it to me.

You could do something like this! take the ugly ass LIC plate light off and get a lighted frame mount to put in its place.

http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/d...hrome_Cast_LED_License_Plate_Frame&model_id=0

Just need to make an aluminum backing plate the correct size and bolt it to the bike then the Lic plate and frame to the backing plate.
Any plate? I just don't want it to look home made...you know what I mean?
I like that....

BTW guys is this stock or aftermarket?

the backing plate will be under the plate frame and license plate it not invisible from the rear... use the lighted frame to size the backing plate, paint it black on the forward side and call it good.

click the link that I posted above to one source for that lighted frame.

Use the mounting holes for the original light to attach the new backer plate to the bike.

+1 That set up will look and work great...

I'm not sure what you have left to work with but this thread may help you get some ideas of how to fab up what you'll need

I must add, that I'm impressed that you took this as in stride as you have. If someone did that to mine, I'd be out for blood. It erks me when someone plays with the switches (which happens more often that it should, I must say)

Cheers,
Frank

License plate mounting.

Hey. I think I still have the old license plate bracket and light from my 02 1800C.
It bolts right onto the sub frame .
I'll look for it tomorrow and take better pics.
No license plate frame. I gave that away at Spykers Tech session.
It doesn't have the turn signals either. I gave them to someone who dropped their bike.
If you can make it work you are welcome to have it.
Just let me know where to send it.

@wizza....no....it's stock. The pic earlier shows it..it was a cast part as past of the rear fender since it appears to be all one module.
@hounddogohio thanks for the offer bro, I've got a chrome plate holder on order and I've mapped out what I'm going to do
@Jawz...oh, I want blood.....I really want blood. But I don't know when or where it happened. I am really pissed........
