I just received my new Mustang seat yesterday. I am having a problem installing the rear portion of the seat. I have saddlebags that rest on the rear fender. When I lay the bags over the fender the rear portion of the seat does not go low enough to attach the rear nut that holds the seat in place. The strap attached to the bags is to thick to allow the seat to attach to the bolt.
Any suggestions other than to purchase new bags that attach to the sides of the bike instead of using the strap over the fender?

I'd recommend removing the "yolk" from your bags; how do you have them attached to the bike? Should be able to drill or punch some holes in the backside of the bags and attach them to saddlebag support brackets or easy brackets. You can attach them to easy brackets with bolts/nuts that usually come with them, or even zip-tie them to regular support brackets.

My Mustang was the same way, you just have to get someone to sit on it and you put the bolt in.

after awhile all you will ned to do is hold preasure down on it and the bolt will start.

WARNING the RIVIT that holds the tab in front can and did on mine CHIP THE PAINT

when I had saddlebags with the yoke, I glued sheepskin on the underside so the yoke wouldn't scratch the fender paint. In order to get the seat bolted down I had to trim the rubber bumpers under the passeenger seat. Worked great. When I sold it I contacted Mustang and they sent me 4 new bumpers and pop rivets to replace the ones I cut free of charge. I drilled out the old ones, put the new ones in and it was good as new.

The passenger seat on a new Mustang is "tight" to mount to the rear stud.. bags over the fender or not -- Mount the front seat and "start" the Allen bolts for it, but DO NOT TIGHTEN THEM.. this will leave some "play" in the front seat.. slide the passenger seat into place with the "play" in the loose drivers seat it will allow you to "push forward and up" with the passenger seat and it should give you enough play to drop it onto the rear mounting stud -- start the cap nut.. everything is mounted, now tighten the passenger seat and then the driver's seat. :coffee:

Yoke

I'd go with the advice of Reto Rich and remove the yoke and install some decent brackets. I've never been one that liked the throw over bags so I might be bias on my oppinon. If you put some decent brackets on the bike you'll, ( Improve the looks of the bag on the bike- Take care of the yoke problem- won't have to worry over a marked up fender- and make your bags a lot sturdier than they are at the present.) I have two Mustang seats, but I don't run bags on this bike, But with all the clearance under my rear seats, you must be talking about a really thick yoke. My rear sections will fit even with a Mustang fender bib in place. LOL :hmm2: GG

Great surgestions. Here is the reply I got from Mustage today.

The Mustang seat does not allow for any saddlebag straps to go under it.
You will have to locate and install a longer rear bolt to be able to
secure the rear seat.
Thanks for choosing Mustang.

I think I will try removing the yoke and attaching the bags to the brackets.

If you want to run bags and want them secure it's the best way. The Ghost Brackets or Easy Brackets will let you remove the bags as well. And the hardware that stays on the bike looks a lot better than the standard saddlebag stays anyway. I think you'll be pleased with the out come. :D GG
