When I turn on my high beam the blue light is bright enough to hamper my vision. Does anyone else have this problem? I live in a small city and do ALOT of riding on farm to market roads and blacktops. In town, it not really and issue, just out where there is no background lighting. Short of putting a tab of electrical tape over it, I'm not sure what can be done about this.

You have to dismantle the speedo to get to the back side where the blue light shines thru. Put a small amount of cotton up the hole against the bottom of the lens -- doesn't take much, allows you to see the high beam is on even during the day, won't catch on fire, and a pretty cheap fix. (y)

This is my cluster with a cotton ball (I cut a cotton ball) installed behind the lens. It used to be as bright as the N light:

I punched a 1/4 in. spot of black duct tape and put it right over the high beam indicator. I can still readily tell if high beam is on.

I'll do this tonight!
It really only takes about 30 minutes to open the cover up and put in a cut portion of a cotton ball. You wont be able to tell it's there (the blue lens covers it up) and you wont have to see a sticker/tape.

But as a quick solution, the sticker/tape is a good option.

I would try this approach on my bike. How much dismantling of the speedo does this require? Any pics or detailed threads? Thanks

I don't have a writeup, but it is really easy. Here is a pic from when I was adding the cotton to mine. The lower 3 bolts remove the cluster from the tank, when you flip it over and look under, you will see the bolts you need to remove to get the cluster out from the cover. It's easier then you think it will be.

When loosening the bolts to remove the dash from the tank, be careful not to lose the tiny almost invisible plastic washers under each bolt head. These help prevent rattle from the dash.

And are rather EXPENSIVE!!! considering what they are!

When I lost some, I just cut new ones with scissors and an Xacto type knife from some thin plastic I found lying around.

As JPT shows in the pic, it's not that hard to take apart. To keep from scratching the tank or anything else, just take it off and put on a workbench. Take the RH front cylinder chrome cover off and you can get at the two wires going to the speedo -- just unplug them, being aware that your trip meters will reset when plugged back up. (y)

If you do disconnect the wires going to the speedo at the connectors, be VERY careful with the locking tab on these small connectors. It is very delicate and can easily break off.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I just completed it and it was as quick and easy as everyone suggested. Once the speedo was removed from the tank cover, 4 Phillips screws hold the speedo's clear cover in place. Those screws also have the thin white plastic washers. The clear cover has tubes that fit on top of the indicator lights. The cotton goes in the high beam tube. Start to finish - including bringing the speedo inside where it's warm and trying different amounts of cotton with the help of a small flashlight - wasn't much more than half an hour. It looks much better and now won't glare at me. Thanks again to everyone.

Glad you got it fixed and had the satisfaction of successfully doing it yourself.
