Good day all.

I have an opportunity to puchase the pipes mentioned in the title used. I have read from my searches that HK is not noted for having the best quality with bluing, chrome peeling, and rusting. With that said, I love the looks of these pipes.

My question, for those of you that have them or something similar, the way the rear cylinder exhaust wraps before going to the rear or the bike...does that create any issues?

Do you find yourself contacting it more than say a stock pipe climbing on or off? Excessive heat when riding since the pipe passes so much closer to your foot?

I suspect they are louder than what I am looking for, but I guess i can limp through my neighborhood when arriving home very late.

Thanks all for the insight...I don't want to make a several hundred dollar mistake and get something I will regret more than just the rusting an pitting.

Love my Sideburners. HK has NO PROBLEM with bluing on the pipes as they are a double wall pipe. Any company can have problems with chrome peeling but that is not the standard and as far as I know the peeling chrome was on the tips which are replaceable. If you have short legs then the rear pipe can be a problem but with the duel wall construction you won't really burn yourself unless you are not wearing pants... But that is up to you. Also, HK will only warrenty their products to the ORIGINAL owner and you must have a sales receipt.

Sideburners are loud but actually tone down with use. They have a low deep rumble like a BIG block chevy engine. If they are to loud you can always add a baffle to tone it down.

Also i think you will have to take them off everytime you check you valves since they cover a few of the bolts on the timing cover

I love mine. Nice Deep tone and loud. Yes, You have to loosten/remove the two header pipes to adjust the valves. I am 6'1" and hae had no issues with getting burnt on the rear head pipe. LOVE THEM. Best looking too...

I only had trouble with one bolt so I left it out, the pipe covers it anyway. For the anal types.... well, you don't have to check the valves that often anyway. Nothing wrong with spotless, everything in it's place but after 40,000+ commuter mi, it gets a bath as often as ah do, saturday nat...:D... Got mine second hand and thought it was loud till the baffle blew out one day and it sounds reeealy good, for the sound tho I'ld put them over any of em but if I do any long trips I'll put the stockers on cause after a couple hundred mi it gets a little much. They were the ones I wanted when I bought the bike but it took 4 yrs. to find em for the price I'ld pay.....frugle.

Thanks guys!

Haven't been here long (haven't had the VTX for long) and always get quick informed responses.

Have a couple other questions but will need to start another post.

Thanks again......any additional thoughts or input certianly welcome.

the sideburners look great and sound great....they are loud when you ride them, but as the bike goes away from you they are not so loud! I had baffled mine, but it fell out and I'm not gonna replace it...I was concerned because of the loudness, and I was going to New Hampshire where there are loudness laws, but I dont think I was any louder than the Harley's.....and noone said anything to me......bottom line..they are great looking and sound great!!:mosh:
