A neighbor told me about this -- I had known about it but forgot.

2012 Hogs for Dogs.

http://www.heartlandanimalshelter.net/HogsForDogs.html

It's a pet charity event out of Northbrook, IL. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make this. My wife and I get back from vacation the day before and we are worried we may be tired or have too many other things to do. I'll be making it if possible though, so if others are interested do post here.

Regards,
Frank

Frank, thanks for posting. I completely forgot to remind folks. I've done this ride the past 3 years and it is great. Unfortunately, I am not going to make this Year's event. In the past, it has been about an 60-80 mile ride with one rest break. Ride ends at Side Outs in Island Lake. Food, live band, silent auction...it's a lot of fun.

It should be good. If it wasnt for my daughters wedding, I'd be there.

Hey Frank...I know Phil is riding in it. He is usually the photographer as well. Let me see what his plans are that morning and will let you know. Our neighbors across the street run this thing so they usually have us do something. Will let you know.

I would say about 50-60 bikes. The route took mostly back roads, riverwoods road through wheeling, st. mary's road through vernon hills, did a little jog on rivers road in libertyville, route 120 to o plains road, up to washington road in gurnee, then huntclub to highway Q in Wisconsin. Took a break at Kelly's bar. then I forgot the rest of the roads, but ended at Side outs in Island lake.

Was around 80 miles. The jog on river roads was an addition that confused some people, but everyone for the most part stayed together. The leader did an excellent job with hand signals and letting traffic clear to allow the entire group to follow/catch up. They had a middle biker keeping track of everyone and the tail biker.

Only scary part was at river roads at the s bend, rider in front of me did not judge the turn well and scraped bad, he tried to correct but dropped off onto the gravel. I was like the 6th bike back and tried my best to give him room because I know that turn well. I thought he was going down and all I could think of was the 50 other bikes about to pile up behind me if I had to stop fast. Luckily he did not go down and everything turned out well. I hope he had a piece of charcoal up his but, because he looks scarred. I know I puckered up a bit.

That curve you are talking about is marked and has a 15mph speed limit on it and for good reason as you saw. I think you and Frank were riding with my neighbor Phil, on the '72 Triumph. Three years ago he rented a huge HD, took the turn too quick, fell and separated his shoulder requiring surgery. His wife who was the passenger also took the spill hard but no major damage. It's a fun ride, but that curve is deadly.
