Gas just jumped like .12 in one fell swoop at the local pumps. So for some people that had never considered a motorcycle before they're beginning to look more and more viable every time they have to fill up. I know the automatic trans didn't sell any bikes last time they tried it but these are different times. When you add that automatic option on top of great fuel economy and toss it into a new demographic of 21-35 year olds (especially those just getting out of college with tremendous student loans to pay back) then I believe the potential is there. Besides I believe Honda is marketing the bike worldwide and not just in the USA. I think the europeans will eat it up. Especially when comparing the price tag to a similar Triumph or BWM.

It's a good bike for the money and there's an option to get one without the auto transmission. This bike isn't a cruiser. It's more of an adventure bike which allows it to go where a heavy cruiser cannot. If it does average 64 miles a gallon, I would be interested in using it to commute to the lake and back. A heavy cruiser would not be able to get out of here.

Nevertheless, I would probably opt for the additional power and the retro look of the CB1100. I'm not sure these are available in the US though.

I think it would be great commuter bike. For a lot of folks around here it's not uncommon to have 80 to 150 miles round trip commutes every day to work. Great mpgs, lot's of storage space. Seems like a good option for folks that have to travel several hundred miles every week for work. Around here you can ride pretty much all year.
