I'm trying to get rid of buffeting which I understand may be coming up from beneath my windshield.

I have a Memphis Shades (MS) 19" windshield with MS lowers. How close should the top of my lowers be to the bottom of my windshield?

My right turn signal and my right crash bar conspire to keep me from getting my right lower any closer than about three inches. No problem on my left side (so much for balanced design).

To get the lowers any closer I'll have to put some spacers behind my turn signal bar and push them forward.

Attached are pictures.

If you wanted to get creative with a dremel, you could try to notch around the turn signals a little. I don't have lowers, so that's about all I have for you. Sorry.

I tried the lowers every which way with the 19" shield and never found a sweet spot. I changed to a 21" shield and with a little more tweaking of the lowers, I got it! no more buffeting. I'm 5'8" and still look over the 21" shield. I'm loving it!

You hit the nail on the head. you need spacers behind the light bar. I ran into the same problem and that is how I solved it. picked up some 3/4inch long spacers and longer bolts easy fix.

Sounds like spacers are the way to go. I've got the Nat. Cycle switchblade with integrated lowers and I'd say they're less than an inch apart. I get little if any buffeting.

My wife, Mylilpony's" bike has the same issue with interference of the lowers by the combination of turn signal and highway bars. However, her interference occurs on both sides. I am intrigued by what on your two sides is causing them to have a different degree of interference. Any ideas?

I don't see why it makes a difference, but the right crash bar sticks out 1.5 inches further than the left (10.5" vs 9" from the frame). The reason I don't think that makes a difference is because the lower contacts the horizontal portion of the crash bar, not the vertical.

It looks like you have the lowers facing with the curved portin facing forward. cange them to the opposite sides. You have the facing straight out too, they heed to be facing the rear some what to direct the wind back and away from the bike. A 21" windsjeld is what I used too. I have a 1800R and the 7" headlight hole made a difference in the amount of air that could get under it too.

I got the Up Front kit from NC a long time ago. The lowers are about 3" from the bottom of the shield, so I made a "filler" to go between them. Stopped 90% of the buffeting.

The photo doesn't show it clearly, but my lowers are curved forward--by this I mean that the right and left edge of each lower is closer to the rear of the bike than the middle bulge.

You are correct about the lowers not being curved back much. I should be able to slant them back more when I put spacers behind my turn signal bar and move that bar forward a half an inch. Where do I buy spacers anyway?

Yup. It looks like a 21" is in my future as well, if the movement of the turn signal bar and the repositioning of the lowers don't work.

Does a fairing have the same problems with buffeting that a windshield with lowers has?
