I bought an 03' 1300S about 2 months ago. I haven't ridden a bike much in 35 years except for a joy ride now and then. The 1300 was my second bike after the addiction started one month earlier with a fix of 02' Sabre. It scared the shiite out of me and I almost got rid of it after the first day. I decided there where too many old fools out there having a lot of fun being bikers for it to be that bad, so I challenged myself to master the art of motorcycle riding.

I ride everyday if the weather permits and it is getting better. At least now my a$$hole doesn't pucker anymore going around easy turns. The addiction is getting worse. I find myself neglecting my business because of this addiction. This crack isn't cheap either. I bought the bike for $5300 and have already spent $2000 on various mods and I don't see any end in sight.

Last night was the kicker. We where at some new friends house, "bikers", and my buddies wife tells my wife to try on her chaps. OMG, now I will be shopping for new "clothes" with my wife, at the bike shop.

HOW DO YOU STOP. Is there support groups for MAD, motorcycle addiction disorder. If not who cares.

Hey T,
I am 45 and just bought a new 2006 VTX 1300. I rode everyday when I was 20 years younger and occasionally ten years ago. I have to admit that I am addicted, too. It is getting to be an expensive hobby to say the least. I think it all has to do with the Wow factor of owning the biggest, safest, and the coolest bike on the block. I admit that after being off of a bike for 10 years my cheeks tightened a lot at first, too, especially when I would hit a cross wind that moved the front end around! I probably have 1000 into the bike of which I paid 8000 for. For me the addiction is more about the best in being safe which includes lighting and my pipes sound. Loud pipes save lives. If you are buying stuff to make you safe then by all means carry on! Ride Strong, Live Long, Richard

Enjoy

I'm really glad your enjoying the bike. I rode the pocket rockets for years and years. But I've never enjoyed a bike as much as the VTX. It is just a pure enjoyment to ride and very easy to install parts and make it your way. And now I can't imagine not having the X. Along with the help and trouble shooting from the great members here. They have made me enjoy it that much more. But don't shy away form the job too much. You will still need gas money. lol GG :D

with the money most spend on additions you could put another bike in the garage.i bought my vtx because it was the closest thing to a finished product out there, and everytime i think about putting something else on it i also think about the time i will be piddlin with it instead of riding it.now there are some people on this forum with some amazing looking customized bikes, and everyday i look at some other trinket to slap on the x. but i think instead of putting the wife in leather i'll hold off on all the mods and clothing and put her in a triumph to go with my x .now with that being said bring on the chrome catalog hahaha.. have fun make it your own and this forum is no help for our addiction.by the way a good set of leathers is equipment....it's a safety issue man....thats all tere is to it

Man, it doesn't stop...I'm constantly looking at mine and wanting to do something else. I'm a chrome whore, mod whore, and whatever else you want to call me. Not sure if I'll ever finish, but hopefully I will some day. When and if I finish with this X, I'll start modding something else.

Riding after years off as bike

BigT....

After not riding for 30 years, I welcomed the 1300R, and honestly, a little apprehension goes a long way...better to be cautious than thinking you've got that much metal handeled completely...and besides the bike, you have the traffic and the road to deal with...so take it easy and enjoy getting to know her...

As far as the wife getting leather, nothing looks better as a new addition to the bike, as a women in leather-just picked up my wife's leather from the alterationist on Saturday...you can go ahead and add your chrome, but if your wife is into it, it makes adding the chrome a much easier thing...and shopping for womens clothes to fit her has now become a great past time-I don't have a problem with it-I'll have to buy her a bike next, beacuse I don't want to put the buddy seat back on my bike....

truth is you cant stop especially if you read sites like this on cause it's full of fun stuff to do to your bike!! if it weren't for the cafe, I'd never have spent nearly as much as I have on my bike......nor learned as much...so there's a trade off!!! enjoy the bike and dont worry about how much you are spending cause you'd probably spend it on something else, anyway!!!! and when you do something cool, let the rest of us know so we can think about doing it , too!!!!!

For me it is easy to not buy stuff. Everytime I start to order something I ask myelf, "will it make the bike ride any better"? Since I am not big into bolt-ons I am planning a custom bike so I don't want to buy things that I won't need later on. I like low and lean so I am taking more things off the bike then I have added.

I'm done, after about $4,000 in addons (and I didn't do pipes or paint). Now I want to get an 1800 and start again.

Well, I think when you finally have your "dream bike" and are content then it stops. When my bike was orange I added a bunch of stuff, never had it just the way I wanted it. So I stripped it, and have it the way you see it now, with MUCH LESS on it now and I'm done. I need to get my saddle bag issues figured out and a few chrome bolt covers here and there but I think that's whn your done.
