Guys,
I put my payment down on the 1300R and I am STILL having a hard time between the R and the C. Can you please tell me why you bought the model you did? I like the look of the R, but I am not 100% sold on the floor boards, I never rode a bike that had them and I am not sure what to expect. I use to like the fact that I could "roll" my ankle around on pegs. Please reply! Thanks again and I love this forum. DJ

I got the s... I am young but have an old soul... I chose the style that fit me best, I wanted a bagger so "with a little help from my friends" I made it what I wanted (never done) ... The floor boards are great give em a try , but you can change em if ya need to...!

I like the old bagger look so I got the R model. I had an VT1100 Spirit brfore with the short fenders and I like the long fenders better. It really boils down to what you like/want.

If it is only the floorboards holding you up, then I would say give them a try. I never owned or road a bike with them till I got my X. Now that I have, I don't think I could go back to pegs. So darn confortable espeacally on long rides I can stratch out to the end of the boards without needing highway pegs(next to get though). But then I am only 175 and 5'7".

I chose the R for the comfort factor. It just fit be better than the C. It felt more laid back, more cruiserish you might say. I too had never ridden with floorboards, but after talking to all of the good people here I decided to try it. I love boards. There is a lot of room for movement of your feet and just plain comfortable. You will never regret the dicision. The C is an awesome bike also and floorboards can always be added if you like the more upright and forward seating position. Betty Boop can shed a lot more light on that subject. She's got a beautiful bike. Good luck and remember, the reds are the fastest, ie: Candy Black Cherry

I was locked in on the C, upto 2 days prior to purchasing my R.
I think the drag-style C are sharper then the Retro(s). They have no equal on the 'cool' scale imho.
Knowing that my riding is more about little trips away from home vs. just zipping around local; I knew I would be putting on
crashbar/windshield/spotlights/big bags/etc... To me, the C looks too-good to stick all that stuff on.
Then the idea of those big fenders and slightly fatter front tire, fares well for when your caught in a down-poor.
& the S, I really like the spokes. But experience proves that I'm too lazy to keep spokes as clean as I should.
I rode a bike with floorboards, for the first, just this past summer. So that helped me in deciding.. I was a quick fan of floorboards.
But that's just me...

For me, I liked the overall look of the C the best. I personally like the drag bars and the seating position, I wanted the Candy Orange (only available in the C model), and I love the aluminum wheels that come on the C.

I bought my "S" because it was a deal. I got a 2005 "S" with 420 miles (yes, 420), crash bars, Memphis Fats and a couple extras along with a 5 year extended warranty for $6000. Just couldn't pass it up. I hate the boards so I found some "C" pegs on the VTX boards and swapped them out. Check out my pic below and you can see the pegs. Much better now.

I like the look of the fenders much better on the R than the C....that was the deciding factor for me......I should add this is my first bike so I didnt know the difference between floorboards and pegs......but seemed realistic that the floorboards might be more comfortable than the pegs in a guy who only wants to ride and do some cruising.....I also added highway pegs to the engine guards......also......and this was big for me......the R fender makes the bike look different than all the others!!!

I bought my S because I loved the retro look with the fat fenders and the spokes... the bonus was the floorboards. Mine was used and it came with some extra chrome, saddle bags and the sissybar/trunk setup. Only thing I had to do was at a windshield. I love the look of the S, but go with what makes you happy.

Honestly, I got my C last year and still wonder if I should have gotten the R. I love the big fenders and all around Retro look, but wasn't sure about the floorboard, heel toe shifter thing. I guess it doesn't help that I have big feet and could see problems upshifting or downshifting accidentally. Plus, on my test ride, I took an R out and since I was used to a bit more upright of a bike (my previous was a Virago) I took a corner on the R and scraped the floorboard. At that point, I got a little spooked and decided to go with the C. I love the drag bars, and all of the other features of the C, not to mention that it was the only NON-Black bike that they had. And as Ms Boop has stated, Red is faster. Problem is that after a few 200+ mile rides last year with only the stock pegs on the C, I wished I had floorboards. Unfortunately, putting floorboards on a C is not as easy as slapping them on. I bought a set of Kury floorboards and they just didn't work. I just recently ordered the frame mounted highway pegs for the C at the recommendation of a friend of mine who said they worked a hell of alot better than floorboards for them.

Also, one other thing, Like AzVTX said, there is a ton more crap that you can get for an R that isn't available for the C, which seems to be more for the minimailst. At the end of the day though, it's all about self expression and making the bike exactly what you want. Worse case scenario, you can always just buy the stock parts off of the R that you like and put them on the C and you're all set to go. Either way, good luck and enjoy the ride, figuratively and literally.

I liked the look of the C because I liked the sporty look. However I'm so short that I found myself kinda streatched out with my feet on the pegs. If I was just gonna sprint around town that would be fine but I wanted something for the long ride. When I sat on the R and put my feet on the floorboards I knew then the R was the one for me. It was stricktly a comfort factor that made me select the R. However, I like the look too.

Welcome maddevildog, What color? You will love the R. It has lines that set apart from all othe bikes. It SCREAMS Rerto. Not to say the C is not nice also. You have to decide on what you want to add to the bike and then you can make a good decision on what bike is best for you. Floorboards are very nice to have, but as said you can always add them to a C. Look at some of the bikes in the gallery. It might help you.:)
