Hey all,

I don't know if any of you ever get involved with getting charity rides together, but if you do, I could use your help.

I recently got in touch with a guy by the name of Ross Hartill. He's a community manager with a shelter called BestFriends, based in Kanab, Utah.
For those of you who havent heard of it, it's an ENORMOUS no-kill animal shelter in Utah that has been doing a LOT of great things for animal welfare in the areas of education, low cost altering of animals, etc.


Anyway, The weekend of September 22nd of 2007, they are trying to organize a nationwide bikers for best friends pokwe run to benefit shelters.

This is a copy of the email I have most recently gotten from Ross about it:

Hello all,

I would like to thank you for the interest that you have shown in supporting Bikers For Best Friends 2007 National event.

At this end we are still planning the final concept for the National event but don’t let this hold you back from moving forward. Some of you have already pitched the idea to your local Harley Davidson dealerships and received a positive response.

If you’ve not talked to your local Harley Davidson dealership I would recommend that as your next step. The vision is Bikers For Best Friends will promote and organize a national event to take place on Sat 22nd Sept 2007. The events will take place at Harley Davidson dealerships throughout the country, there will be poker runs with the proceeds going to local rescues and charities and adoption events taking place at the dealerships.

I personally envisage this being the largest event ever of Bikers showing their kindness towards animals and with your support we can make this possible.

A Better World Through Kindness to Animals


They recommend talking to harley dealerships because they have the backing of Harley Davidson when it comes to the legal aspects, etc, of doing an organized charity ride. SInce I have this great network of folks who are all over the country, i wanted to take the time to spread the news to you guys. If any of you would like to get involved in this, please drop Ross a line and/or talk to a local dealership.

I will definately pass the info on to the Harley Dealership 's in Charleston...Anytime we have a ride they alwasys participate, as well as every other dealer I've ever contacted, they all participate in one way or another...But I'll pass this one on only to the HD guys...Whew September is HOT Here !!!

Thanks a lot. And yeah, Charleston in September is horrible. At least it isn't august though! I used to live in Greenville and went to Charleston with my dad a LOT.

Cool. My father and I wanted to do a charity ride for our local no kill shelter. I'll get in touch with them and most likely use that date and such. Got a couple local dealers pitching in already. Even some of the metric shops.

thanks a lot for the help! I'd love to see this become a yearly nationwide thing. if you could, PM me sometime and let me know what all you did to get dealers involved. I would kind of like to get a "how-to" package set up for folks who want to contribute, but have no idea how to get started.
