Simple question, hope there is a simple answer...

After warming up the bike, I really like the way it sounds and the candance of the idle, but after running for a while on rides, the idle appears to perk up a bit and lose that slow candance...could the bike be running too rich? No tach so can't see the difference--just hear it....Can this be adjusted in the carb?

Just wondering, am I being to compulsive?

:coffee: Yes you are being compulsive. But thats alright. A engine that is completely up to running tempature has a greater vacume than when it is just warm, and parts also expand a little. The combination of expansion and increase in vacume result in drawing in a ever-so-slightly increase in the fuel air mix. The greater the mix the higher the rpms. Try and find a ballance between stalling when just warm and idling too high when up to running temp.

Or just enjoy the ride!

I just turn the "idle adjustment" down a little. It's that black knob mounted by the carb. and air filter. It's conected by a black covered cable. You can do it at a stop light or pull over. A very easy adjustment that can be done without any tools.

EDIT: as always check your plugs. It's the best way to tell if thre bike is running rich or lean.

I have the cobra tach and its a great add on. The problem I had though, is I also have a beautiful set of risers that wouldn't let me mount the tach down there. So my tach is mounted on my clutch lever clamp. Now that I know how fast I am going at any given RPM, I find it more convinient to check my speed with the tach than with the speedo. I have gotten some good compliments on the look too.

I have a cobra tach as well. Very happy with it. That being said though, you'll get a lot more from the "butt tach" than you will from the Cobra tach when it comes to low idle.

As was said, you can adjust the idle speed a little bit with the knob. One caveat, though.....drop your idle too much and your oil pressure can also fall off pretty dramatically.
