Installed Clutch Tension Reducer -- How to Adjust Clutch Cable?

Hi all, I'm sure this is a silly question, but I have never done it before and don't want to mess anything up. Hick's installation DVD and instructions say to, once you've got the CTR bolted on, adjust the slack out of the clutch cable... What is the proper way to do this?

I did a search here, and several months ago Shutterbug gave someone a link to an article on the VTXOA page, but that link no longer works.

Thanks!

Some slack in the clutch can be accounted for in the similar manner as the adjusting of the throttle cable captured in the following link (http://vtx1300tips.com/throttle_operation.htm), except on the clutch hand grip. You can also make adjustments at the other end as well (left side under ignition).

Well I think I figured out how to get rid of the slack, but the clutch is no easier to squeeze than before the CTR was installed. Are there some more adjustments that I need to make?

The attachment shows what I did to get rid of the slack in the cable (everything was done at the lower adjustment point). Basically I loosened the right nut (closest to the CTR), pushed the cable away from the CTR to tighten it up, and then tightened the nut furthest from the CTR. I don't know if I was supposed to actually twist the cable or what? Something's not right here, because the CTR has made no difference at all.

Have you tried sending a PM to cyberhick? See the thread at the top of the "Similar Threads" listed below.

Yeah, I shot him an email thru Google Checkout. Tried to call the phone# listed on the documentation, but it's out of service right now. Maybe he turned his phone off for a long holiday weekend or something... Just a bummer because I was all excited about putting this on and the difference it would make. I assume that something is just adjusted wrong or something.

OK, false alarm! Turns out it's important to actually RIDE the bike when testing the clutch after CTR installation. When the bike was just sitting in my garage, squeezing the clutch felt the same... But once I was actually sitting on it, riding it... Well... It was a different story. I think there was never a problem at all, except for my not testing it properly. CTR is a winner!

The only thing is that since I'm a dummy, I'd like to see in the instructions a bit about how to get the slack out of the clutch line. Of course it's very simple once you know what to do, but for someone who's never done it before, maybe not. So far I would give the product an A grade though, and with that in the instructions it would be an A+. I loved how quickly everything arrived, and the installation DVD was definitely a great and unexpected bonus.

Thanks, Hick!

Sorry about the phone. My $600 PDA phone left me while I was on the bike yesterday. Not sure where, but I was doing between 70 and 100, so I'm sure it don't look too pretty wherever it landed. Has to call Sprint and have them turn it off in case someone finds it and it still works. Thank goodness for insurance. My replacement should be here by Thursday of next week. I sent you a contact number to reach me until then.

BTW, thanks for the feedback on the video. I may need to make some changes.

Everything's great -- CTR success... Thanks for the quick response, and sorry about the phone! I can totally see something like that happening to me.
