Thanks to this forum, over the last 1 1/2 years I've been able to do a whole lot of mods and maintenance to my "new" 2003 VTX1300 that I'd never consider doing otherwise. A couple weeks ago I did the pair valve removal using the dimpled block-off plates and today, I took on the task of checking the valve adjustments. I found the front intake/exhaust were still within specs, but the rear intakes were just a little too tight (a tight .005") so I adjusted them to .006" using Poison's & Donut's tips, completing the task in about 2 1/2 hours. While at it, I inspected the plugs and found the rear where a little black (not bad) while the front looked better (black/brown), which made me think I was running just a tad rich, so I tweeked on the adjustment of Glen's permanent A/F screw using tips I've learned from this forum!
Bottom line,.. it sure feels good doing all this work on my own and knowing it was done right! The engine purrs like a sweet running sewing machine when idling and cruising through these beautiful Smoky Mountains and roars like a lion when I lay on the throttle! The bike runs GREAT!
I love my VTX and this forum! Thanks to all who contribute valuable information!
